Apartment ads in America often ask for a Christian person. that is also illegal.

if people wanted to make a difference, they probably would have stayed at home.

We're all mercenaries. Finding a job we can live with is all.

Ha, ha. I can see through your little scam. You're just trying to figure out if I'm white or not.

Well, I'm not telling!

Cool Laughing Cool

PS I wouldn't apply based solely on the fact that it's in Incheon. I can find something just as good, hours-wise in an area I'd rather live in.

"We're all mercenaries." - Speak for yourself. Clearly not everyone agrees with you. There are plenty of jobs available that people can live with. Show some respect for your fellow beings - become one of them, not merely a parasite living off others and accepting the first bite that comes your way.

I can't figure out what I am since I have mix of Irish, Italian, and American Indian. Would I be white or red? Maybe pink?

Before asnwering ask yourself if you are working in a school with any "non-white" foreign teachers (or have worked with any in the past)- if you answer no, how do you know your employer did not have the same requirement when you applied for your position (just not as explicit)?

Seems to me that is a fairly common requirement in the feild in Korea.

I still don't think I'd apply, as that employer clearly lacks discretion- although I do kinda like the hours...

I'm going to play the devil's advocate here. Disclaimer: I'm not racist.

If you had a business in the U.S. teaching kids, would you hire a person that had tons of facial piercings? Many would not, not because they have anything against the person, but that the children would be scared and/or it may not look good for business.

I know that piercings are a choice, but bear with me, it is still someone's outer appearance.

In Korea, the appearance of a foreign teacher plays a role in attracting business. I wish it wasn't this way, I wish everyone was judged by their deeds and experience, but that is the way it is. So shouldn't the owner be free to hire as he/she wishes?

Discuss.

Gotta agree with you there...I don't like it either. it's F@#$ed up, but that's the way it appears to be played in Korea.

I used to work in a major hotel in the States that placed employees into departments based on their looks and overall appearance. Gorgeous people got higher paying jobs interacting with the public daily, ugly people and minorities worked in the back of the house (for lower wages) with little or no contact with the public.

I got a job in between- I split half my time behind the scenes and the other half in public, I guess that makes me ruggedly handsome (you, know, good looking for an ugly guy).

And by the way, at 38 I expect to have to deal with ageism when trying to find a job in Korea being an older male (that would be sexism as well), so I don't like it, but am trying to be pragmatic about it.
