At the University I use the HBO Curb Your Enthusiasm series. I've had to explain a lot of things, from an "affirmative action joke" to "I will body slam you so hard you will poop your bald pants!"

When I taught at a hakwon, I taught my kindy class some basic tumbling stuff- cartwheels and standing on your head. Cool thing was was no one was afraid. No one got hurt, either, unlike when I had a winter camp and we played Red Rover Sad ....

I was working at an evening school in 2003, just as the Americans were invading Iraq. I was rather pissed off about it, so I devoted a whole day to teaching my students words like "arrogant, war monger, self righteous, war crimes, and buffoon". Then immediately gave them a reading assignment about Bush and Iraq. When they were done, we had a group discussion and surprise surprise they all thought Bush was a self righteous, arrogant, war mongering, war criminal buffoon! Very Happy It was a good day at work! Felt like I did my part.

Way to impose your beliefs... buffoon! Was this at a hagwon?

I'm no fan of Bush or the invasion, but I think any discussion along the lines of "I'm in a position of authority over you, these are my __________ and/or _______ beliefs, what do you think?" is pretty retarded.

I try not to influence my students with my opinions, unless we're talking about that talentless, hairy eyebrowed troll Moon Gwen Young.

If Green Tea isn't taking the piss or a troll, he is a crappy hagwon monkey (I don't dare call him a teacher).

all of these happened at school in canada, with adults...
1. a full-on lesson (by request) on swearing and what words are appropriate for what occasions. including the religious swears, the bodily function swears, the family background swears, and the sex swears. it did my heart good to hear a middle-aged japanese woman practicing her pronunciation of "motherf.u.cker"
2. 420, how to roll and smoke...
3. euphemisms for sex, death and bodily functions. after explaining what a euphemism is, i asked for examples. one girl pipes up with "f.u.ck is a euphemism for have sex!" umm...no.
rss Cool

If you want all the kids to go crazy over something hold out your hand and say, "Give me five." (Show them how to slap it.) Then hold your hand higher and say, "Up high." (Let them slap it.) Then hold your hand low and say, "Down low." When they try to slap your hand, move it away and say, "Too slow."

That's . . .

"Give me five!"
"Up high!"
"Down low!"
"You're too slow!"

The kids go ape sh!t over it.
