a friend of mine tried it one summer.. too frustrating of a process for him.. so he turned around and just stayed in mongolia/china.

the russian embassy is quite friendly and its very convenient here. its near the seoul station area. i'd just do it here.

not only that but you have to pay A LOT for expedited service. the low-cost option is two weeks for 90,000 won. to have it done in 5 days or 1-2 days you have to pay twice as much minimum and goes up from there.

in other words, just a whole lot easier to do it here in korea and have it.

You could also potentially be refused entry to Molgolia, if you don't have an onward visa/ticket for either China or Russia.

There are two Russian consulates in Korea (Seoul and Busan) so it would probably be safer to get it here, to avoid any potential problem entering Mongolia.

Yeah, I'd like to get it here. But unfortunately I don't have the time ...

What's the story with getting a ferry from Incheon to Shanghai then ? I believe that it's possible to get it there right ?

Ferry to China Info:
http://www.seoulsearching.com/transportation/boat/

It says the Incheon-Shanghai ferry is discontinued.

But if you are heading north to Beijing and Mongolia then the Tianjin ferry would be the one to go on. It is possible to process a Russian visa in Beijing.

Thanks Soviet_Man,

I've heard alot of times at this stage though, that the Beijing embassy does not process Russian visas. And I've heard it from a number of different sources, so I really wouldn't like to risk it...

What's the story with getting the Mongolian visa in Beijing ?
Does it take long ? How much is it ? BTW I'm Irish

while technically true, the chances of this happening are somewhere between slim and none.
border police care very little about western tourists, too much smuggling going on for them to be bothered.

last i knew (a few months ago) the russian embassy in beijing was NOT issuing visas to anyone except chinese citizens or chinese residents (you need a chinese green card).
although this may have changed, email them and ask
the embassy in hongkong however was, last i knew

for mongolian visa, go to the embassy, fill in the form, pay the money (not sure how much for irish passport), hand over your passport, come back approx 1 week later and pick it up. if you pay more it gets done quicker

for russian visa in ulaan bataar, unless you have the invitation and everything already sorted, your best bet would be to go to a travel agent and get them to do it for you. it will involve an extra fee but a lot less hassle.
