Only once. Woke up and there was still some soju in the bottle next to my bed. Felt hellish, so I drank it, then felt great. Proceeded to buy another bottle and had a few swigs during each break. By the time the last class rolled around, I was pretty hammered.

You'd be surprised though - while the classes were more fun, they seemed to take forever, so I won't be doing that again.

I like my wine, not every night, say once or twice a week. And I have no worries about drinking alone, I live alone. So if I want a nice glass of wine its usually imbibed alone.
Problem...any half decent wine is sooo expensive...oh well...when needs must! Very Happy Very Happy

You can get decent Aussie wine at E-Mart for about 8000 a bottle. Two of those and you'll be whistling dixie in no time my man...

I can top that. Well, that is my friends can. We were just out of university and, rather flukily, two of them landed jobs straight away with the same big engineering company. They requested and were endulged with an office to share, where for the first _six_months_ their only task was to read the company manuals all day long. Each office had a mini-fridge. Naturally, theirs was crammed to bursting with beer. I swear I've never seen a more seemless transition from university life to work life. They went from STUDY & DRINK to STUDY & DRINK & GET PAID FOR IT. Several times I rang them, suggested we go out for a few. They often begged off because they were already too buzzed by quitting time. Surprised

I don't see why drinking at home alone is any better or worse than when you go out. Sometimes you just want to chill at home and drink.

Drinking becomes a problem when your start having problems because of it, ie. problems at work, problems with your relationships, legal problems....

I can honestly see a situation where someone goes home and gets abslutely hammered every night by himself, and not call it a problem. Not likely, but it can happen I think.

As long as your life is chill, who cares how much or where you drink?

When I drink at home, I do a bit of writing, maybe play some Civ II, and fall asleep watching the Colbert Report. When I go out and drink, people's feelings get hurt, fights start, and people start worrying about the foreign menace.

I live with my wife so I'm not exactly drinking alone, but she rarely has one herself.

And yes, I have drank a few times at work. I had a beer the day North Korea tested their nuclear weapon, and I started to get into the habit last spring to help with my writing, but stopped doing that.

I'll have a few drinks in front of thte computer in the evening after work maybe twice a week. No big deal, as I see it. Some times I prefer it to going out. THere's no walk home when I'm already home. I can go to bed when I want to. Plus, sometimes I'm not in the mood to participate in the hof-hopping that happens when I'm out with a group. It doesn't interfere with my job, with my email writing, or with my college football watching.

And I second what Qinella said. I drank in the US maybe twice a year---Thanksgiving and Christmas with the family---but the availability of beer here has significantly upped my intake. I don't drink as much this year, as I'm in the boonies, but last year in Bundang (Bundang!) it was a near-nightly ritual to visit the hof.

That just cracks me up. Sometimes, instead of whistling dixie, I like to hum golden oldies...

By the way, what is "dank" and why is there a lack of it in Korea?

Ah, gotcha:

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=dank

1. dank

sticky, hairy, stinky, and highly potent marijuana.

I took two hits of that dank and was nearly transcendent.

Funny: I never heard this term used as slang before.

9. dank

Adj., used to describe something incredibly good.

Yo, this chicken chimichanga is dank as hell!

10. dank

high quality, potent, moist weed!

pass that dank fo shizzle my nizzle
that shwg you had befor sucked ass, chuuuch!

Synonyms:

dank sound weed pot marijuana chronic bud awesome herb cool ganja grass dope smoke sweet reefer fire dro green nugs blunt hydro tight drugs good headies skunk cannabis mary jane schwag bong buds amazing kush shwag thc trees bomb buddha dadis hash hella kill mota sick sticky icky 420 cheeba chill chron kind maryjane

I agree. It's only a problem if it's causing you problems. Like missing work, or doing stupid things. Like peeing on your walls. Laughing

When you drink alone, do you feel buzzed, decently drunk, or so hammered you can't remember stuff? I would recommend somewhere between the first two.

Totally agree. I'm a big fan of drinking by myself. I'd prefer to get buzzed and watch a great movie on my couch than be out in a smoky bar with people I've got to entertain.

I drank before work one time, and it was the worst day of work I've ever had. I had woken up ridiculously early that day, like 6 am. For some stupid reason, I thought a screwdriver or two would be appropriate aroun 11, since I didn't have to be at work for another 3 hours. Problem was, I forgot vodka takes a loooong time to get out of my system. I mean, I've woken up still drunk after a long night of vodka.

So I went to work a little tipsy, and I felt horrendous all day. I just wanted to go to sleep.

Yeah, drinking before 2-3pm never works for me either, I just get a confused sickly kind of buzz. Its not really enjoyable. maybe it has something to do with the metabolism, seeing as it usually slows down in the afternoon.

Anyway, I used to work in the evenings doing my conversation clubs, 5-9:30pm. So, knocking back a few around 4pm with an early dinner was not difficult to handle, and made for a good session with the students. Smile
