Stem cells 'treat muscle disease'

Stem cell treatment dramatically improved some dogs' symptoms
A stem cell breakthrough could lead to a treatment for muscular dystrophy (MD), research has revealed.
An Italian-French team found transplanting stem cells into dogs with a version of the disease markedly improved their symptoms.

Writing in the journal Nature, the team said the work paved the way for future trials in humans.

Scientists said it was a major step forward and bolstered the idea that stem cells could be used to treat MD.

I'm always a little skeptical about stem cell claims as there are so many quacks these days in Thailand etc shooting up people with stem cells. There was some high profile case in Korea about a woman with spinal cord injury who had some stem cell therapy.

A couple years later, it's not such a miracle.

Stem cells seem like a end all be all cure all. For some reason I rather wait for proper clinical trials before jumping on the bandwagon.

''Emergency trial test' aren't there enough dogs to test this on first in Korea. That woman was treated like a guinea pig. I support stem cell research but human testing? Just to get the jump on other countries or scientists.
