|
i've recently found out that these new-fangled things called divx players exist.
i've downloaded a TONNE of movies and music and although i have a big hard drive on my computer, i'd like to store them elsewhere and free up more room.
so someone told me about divx players - that the hard drives are super huge and you can hook them up to your TV.
anyone have one? can you give me more info/advice? |

Hi Sistersarah,
divx players with harddrives? It's my understanding that divx players are just software you can download to play movies. If you are looking for something to hook up to your tv (so you can watch movies)...wow.....I would say to just go with an external harddrive (to store your movies). You can pick one up for like 50,000 or 60,000 won. Then, connect it to your PC and connect your PC to your TV through the video card (tv out). If your video card does not have the TV out option, you can pick up a video card for dirt cheap (less than 100,000).
Do you need us to point you to a few sites? If worse came to worse Sarah, you could just get a DVD burner for you PC and burn your movies onto DVD's and play them in a standard DVD player that is connected to your TV.
let us know; hope this helps,
Ralph |

They are little units that are basically a hard drive case with a multimedia play function and some jacks that you can hook up to a television.
A dime a dozen at Yongsan (well, maybe a little more expensive, but they're all over the place). |

| You can also buy DVD players that will play a divx or xvid file that is burned to a dvd. Some of them will play any region and pal or ntsc. |

I bought a basic unit (DVP-254) from AiVX (http://www.aivx.co.kr) and a 2.5" hard disk separately. This device is almost the size (dimensions)of 80G ipod. Comes with remote, plays divx, xvid movies with subtitles as well. Also plays music and picture shows.
Got the basic unit for ca. 120K. Its compact and really handy and works super.
Advice: dont buy a prebundled package (the ones they sell in shops) ie. buy the unit separate and hard disk separate. Search for bargains on internet. Small is big. |

is it a korean brand? were you able to get your hands on an english manual? how do you like the menu setup? easy to navigate? thanks a bunch!
edit: actually, here's the one i was looking at: http://sarotech.com/english/cgi/pd.cgi?cmd=view&rno=15
