Back when I lived in Korea I'd run into students on the street--no surprise there. But almost a year gone from Korea I took a vacation with my wife to Europe. We were in London visiting the British Museum, had just taken a look at the Elgin Marbles when I heard someone call my name. What a surprise to run into two of my former students who were on their own vacation to England.

Anyone else run into their students (or former students) in surprising or unusual places and locales?

PC bang in a completely differnent area to school..that's about it.
That time was fine, but it's uncomfortable when you come across students that made your job dificult or if they didn't like you. Run for it! >_<

They used to run into me a lot when I'd be sitting outside a convenience store drunk out of my gourd surrounded by empty bottles of soju and beer. They always seemed to respect me a little more after that.

Bumped into an older gentlemen I had taught 3 months prior in an Anma on early a.m. He insisted on picking up my tab. Unlucky soul didn't realize I'd been there for 5 hours. Surprised

That's so funny! My mates and I hung outside a familly mart in summer, sitting at the plastic table and seats drinking until late. My students who had passed us that night would see me the next day in class and do the bottle to mouth motion and say "oh teacher, you and friends, soju... very like!"

I'd go red and feel embarrassed and mutter something like 'oh only on weekends, only mektju, I don't like big drinking...'

to try and cover my back. But then they'd have these beaming smiles and say something like 'oh no, very good, very good, oh teacher like drinking...!'

Yeah, they seem to respect you for it.

Nice. Cool

I was walking down the high street on my way to the subway and guzzling a pithcer of OB. I heard a voice shout 'hi teacher Chris'. I thought nothing of it, but he took great pleasure in telling the other students that he saw me drunk.

Yes.. met one in Las Vegas.. rather attractive Korean woman while I was with my Filipina gf in Vegas eating at a Korean restaurant. I couldn't place the woman, but she seemed to know A LOT about me.

I also saw a student of mine while on a train to Busan.. I was with 5 other foreigners on a trip.. and all riled up.. then see a student of mine in the same train. Kind of strange.. but alright.

I saw one in the locker room of my old gym when I was completely naked. He just came up to me and said "hi..."

To say the least I switched gyms real fast

drunk and at 3am on a friends birthday, I met five of my grade one elementary school students (6-7 years old) at a run down 노래방. their parents were out on the piss and decided to take the rugrats with them. the kids even had their own singing room, which was good because one was sleeping. seeing them killed my buzz real quick. it's still one of my creepier moments in korea.
