Wow, this tread is kind of funny for sitting around on my a s s all afternoon in the office I figured this out, based on work for 52 weeks and 40 hours a week, I make a little more than 10$ an hour here in Korea. On the other hand if I look only at the contract and the hours specified, then I make a little over 30$ an hour.

				| Not factoring in holidays it's about $26 CDN an hour (hmmm. Better than I thought). If only the commute wasn't such a pain... |

So, what does this mean...for my summer work when I was only working six..I mean 8 hours a week, I was actually making something close to $40 an hour? HA HA HA! That's great!

Regular class time, that cuts it down to about...$18 an hour, though 24 of those 80 working hours are spent sitting in my office. |

I NET about 21.50 per hour- after taxes, utilities, pension, rent, and everything else except food amd clothing. This figure takes into account ten hours a week prep time, not just my hours in class.

What we have to take into consideration is both the low tax rate and the free rent. I get a lot of my meals free at the cafeteria. I don't have car expenses, except for busses and the occasional taxi. If I am conscientious and don't travel abroad, I would be able to save almost $1400 a month.

So the hourly wage is misleading. If I made that much an hour in the States I would barely be able to make ends meet. But it is an interesting exercise to figure it out. |

				Good point desultude.

I make between 25-50 dollars Canadian here in Japan depending on what you take into consideration.

Maybe a better question would be how much do you save. But then again there is a lot to take into consideration there as well.

I would rather make less and have alot of vacation time.

I'm just lazy though |

Did you factor in rent/housing? |

Including the hour of prep time a day that is really mostly me just sitting on my thumb $12.27US an hour.

I made about $19 US an hour back home (corporate paralegal), but I bank more here thanks to Korea's low tax rate and free housing. Economics are a bit different here, that's for sure. |

				| About $18.60 / hour. That's figuring in the hours that are written in the contract. I don't actually teach that many hours, though, so the figure would be higher. |
