I use the MSI core center but it may only work with MSI mainboards.

It gives full system (hardware) monitoring (voltages, temps, fan speeds, etc.)

http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/392/mirrors.php

Intel Thermal Analysis Tool (T.A.T)

It's free. Show seperate temps for each core from the diode.

Has built in CPU load tester which can be set up to run each core at up to 100%.

been using Speed Fan for a few months and very happy.

http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
Quote:
SpeedFan is a freeware program that monitors voltages, fan speeds and temperatures in computers with hardware monitor chips. SpeedFan can even access S.M.A.R.T. info for those hard disks that support this feature and show hard disk temperatures too, if supported. SpeedFan supports SCSI disks too. SpeedFan can even change the FSB on some hardware (but this should be considered a bonus feature). At the lowest level, SpeedFan is an hardware monitor software that can access digital temperature sensors, but its main feature is that it can change fan speeds (depending on the capabilities of your sensor chip and your hardware) according to the temperatures inside your pc, thus reducing noise.

sweet! I downloaded it. Thanks. It is showing the temp of both cores. Man.....my cores are idling at 42 degrees celcius (with outlook, F.E.A.R. dedicated server, a dvd playing, and two MSN's running). What do you think about the temp.?

That temp is fine. You're lucky. Mine is running at 45 with a Zalman cooler and a minor overclock (E6600 @ 3 gig). I'm only web surfing!

These chips are all different depending on their week. I think your new one is a keeper.

Well from what I've read, between 80-90 is the throttling/shutdown point.....if you use the temp sensor at the cetre of the core that is. That's the one TAT gives you. I've had mine at 65 and it didn't start to throttle.

Once it throttle's down. I guess the only way to get it back up is by lowering the temp.

Exactly why do you overclock?

Because it's cool to say "I got this babe overclocking!"

Current Temperature of the Mac CPU: 38 (and I've never seen it any hotter)

Yeah...real cool at 45 degrees. There is a problem there.

A 25% overclock is hardly minor.
