Hi Newbie here. I am leaving the uk next week to teach in the Gangwon-do province. As is standard in all contracts i will be getting 50% of my medical insurance provided.
What exactly does this entitle me too?
Should i be getting other health insurance or travel insurance?
I intend to do a fair amount of travelling and no doubt will try para-gliding, so I am thinking of getting the travel insurance.
anyone know of any good cheap ones?

Cheers

Without taking para-gliding into account, the Korean national health plan is quite good. It provides both medical and dental insurance.

PS: If thrills are what you want, just get a Korean drivers license and a car. Skip the kite stuff.

Korean medical is OK... ASSUMING your hakwon actually puts you on it.

A very LARGE percentage of hakwons (I would guess approaching 90%) do NOT enroll their employees in the national pension (as required under the terms of the contract AND as required by law).

If you are working in a public school then you are good to go.

You'll be covered just as soon as you get your ARC *about a week after actually - they need time to process the paperwork. If you can, make the trip to immigration in your first week to get your ARC. It will make life a lot easier afterward.
