BTM,

Didn't find fresh limes (then I could drink Corona!), but did find lime juice (in the little plastic lime-shaped bottles). I've bought them from both Namdaemun and Hannam markets.

As for Gord's suggestion about the LG burritos...ever see that AFKN commercial about barracks food? EXACTLY. Oftentimes, nothing is better than next-to-nothing.

Oh, thanks a lot for reminding me that I don't get AFN anymore. Law & Order Saturday Night Love is no more.

Chicken Burrito, I will now consume you! Luckily for me, even if the LG25 downstairs is sold out, there is about eight more within a block of me. Seriously.

A deluxe apartment in the sky is now my home. But the older apartment in Sokcho was cool in that I lived next to the forest and could easily head outside to freedom without having to wait for an elevator.

But what I don't miss is having to climb the hill to go anywhere for heading into the city.

Yeah, that's the only reason I'm looking. Been making do with bottled lemon juice. Mexican beer or otherwise, I love me some lime juice and salt in my beer.

And I drink a lot of beer. Wink

Haven't seen actual limes, but have seen the little squeezy green bottles of lime juice around a few well stocked places in Seoul. Fresh lemons seem to be fairly easy to find, would they do?

Yeah, but they're painfully expensive - if I'm going for a mock-lime thing, I reckon I might as well just use the bottled stuff!

s'OK. I drink less beer when it's not tarted up, and that makes the wife happy. Laughing

Went to a little restaurant today nearby Hanyang University that goes by the name of Mexican Cooking (actually, it goes by the name of Maxican Cooking). Reasonable prices and the soft shelled tacos came with sour guacamole and salsa. The quesadillas came with sour cream, salsa, and pickled jalapeno peppers. A decent, if a little undersized, meal.

I swear that I've already replied to this. If someone deleted my post, they'd best not do it again.

Anyways, what I really, really want is a good burrito. But I think I've resigned myself to the fact that the only decent burrito I'm gonna have is one that I make myself...none of these places I've been to have good ones.

It's depressing when Bennigan's has the best quesadillas in the country.

Hi guys, I'm a newbie living in Bucheon. I've just read the Mexican food thread. As I'm jonesin' for Mexican I've decided to make my own. I be needin' beans. The last I've read on the elusive refried beans was, I believe, posted in June. Any update on that? How about dried Pinto beans? Someone mentioned the Red Door for Old El Paso beans. What is the Red Door and where in Itaewan is it? By the way, I've got an F-2 and wonder what do you need in Korea to start up a business (Mexican restaurant)? Lots of questions. What do ya expect from a newbie?

Peace out

You'll probably need quite a bit of set-up cash first of all.

You should probably go to Itaewon or Hongdae and meet foreigners there with their own businesses. Ask them questions and and get info.

I personally don't know where you should go or who to talk to. Perhaps you could start another thread about opening a business in Korea.

Thanks for the reply MW. I had a business at one time in the states so I know there are many things to consider. Lots of startup cash is always a must. I guess the question was really just posed for my own pondering. The advice to ask other foreign businessmen is a great one. I think I'll start there. There are many things that I don't understand here. Key money, rent protocol, etc. Anyway thanks for the input.

To keep on topic... Mexican food. It's good! Anything about the beans?

Peace out

I'll be in Kangnam for the KOTESOL conference, Oct. 18 & 19. I'm definitely gonna try to get over to Casa May that weekend.

I'm looking forward to it.

Has anyone tried the Mexican restaurant 'La Salsa Loca' on Yeuido? If so, what's the verdict?

Also it might be good to have an update on any other Mexican places you might recommend...

Tha~nks!

Yes. It's decent. Maybe even the best Tex-Mexi stuff in town. A bit spendy (you can't just order say, a burrito), so expect a tab of around W20,000 for one, at least. It's been a while, so I don't remember much of the menu. However, I do remember the variety of salsas that accompanied the chips. Possibly 5 or 6 varieties, and all extra-yummy!
