If you are a juggler or aspire to be one, and are living in Korea, then please let me know. My buddy James and I are heading out to meet the Seoul Juggling Club on Sunday. It would be nice to get a contingent of foreigners to meet up on a regular basis for some juggling along with the Koreans. I think the Seoul club tries to meet every Sunday.

James and I juggle or try to juggle almost all of the standard props: balls, clubs, rings, bounce balls, cigar box, contact juggling, and diabolo. We're into club passing too. We can teach you how to do it all too... no problem.

Regards,

~Ed Provencher

Where abouts in Seoul does the club meet? Sunday's are bad for me, but might be able to make it out from time to time, depending on location.

What about yourself, what part of Seoul are you in? I'm a HORRIBLY out of practice juggler (3 balls are fine, 4 are 'do-able', but that's about it). I've got a couple sets of clubs here, that I NEVER use anymore, and my Devil / Rythym Sticks are also quickly gathering dust. On a brighter note, I picked up a unicycle here in Korea several months ago...go to know I can still ride one! Wink I was never a great juggler...very average, but my 'thing' was juggling unusual objects. A chair, a plyon, and an small hatchet used to be part of my act....ah...the good old days... *sigh*

I'm in Siheung City which is a 30 minute bus ride from Bucheon Station. My buddy teaches here. I'm currently looking for work... been in country for 6 weeks.

I forgot where the meeting was last week. This week it's at Yeouido Line 5 #526 at a park there. Start time is 1pm.

I think I can be contacted through Dave's, if not, you can reach me through my blog www.icantstopjuggling.blogspot.com

Seoul Juggling Club will meet inside of the Yeouido Station on Sundays at 1pm until it gets warm again outside. PM me and I'll hook you up with my phone number to make finding us easier.

Huh...I always assumed jugglers to be hippies tripping on acid, or at the very least, filled with maximum levels of THC.

When I lived in Seoul in never ocurred to me to find a juggling club. What a great idea! Sorry I can't join you as I'm now living in Japan. Just posting in solidarity as a fellow juggler...

Juggling in the park in small town Japan. Lovely spring cherry blossoms in the background...

I wanna join, but I can only just manage 3 balls, and I'm out of practice anyway...I tried learning clubs once, but they belonged to my instructor and the class ended before I got the hang of it. Any other total noobs out there? Are we welcome?

I'm right there with you. I can just manage three balls, and only conventionally. None of that hand over hand stuff.
I would love to know how to do variations on three, or even juggle four things....
The kicker is that I'm way out of seoul. I wonder if I can find instruction on the net....

Instruction is a whole lot better in person. But I'll just say that, what you need to do is, to be able to juggle two balls in one hand, side by side, confidently enough to be able to move the ball in your other hand around in different shapes. That will open up a lot of stuff for you. Practice that with both hands... Razz

'confidently enough to be able to move the ball in your other hand around in different shapes. "

I can do the two balls with one hand...but what does the above mean?

For example, you juggle two balls in one hand, and follow the movement of the one of them with the ball in your other hand. This creates the illusion of two outer balls going up and down together, and one inner ball moving in the opposite way...

This is why I say it's better to have a teacher in person...

Not sure if anyone else caught it, but I saw the 2005 Juggling Championship on MBC-ESPN this afternoon. I was never into competitive juggling, but it was pretty amazing to watch these guys...tons of tricks with 5 balls and 5 clubs, not to mention a few guys managed not only 7 balls, but one managed 7 clubs. Shocked

If you're interested, it SHOULD be rebroadcast tomorrow morning (Friday, Jan. 11) from 8:30 - 9:30 on MBC-ESPN.

Think I'm gonna have to record it...might inspire me to start juggling a little more often. Wink

I went to the WJF II December 2005. The jugglers at that level are really good, but if you are not a juggler, I think it is hard to appreciate the difficulty of what they do.

Here is an interesting video the WJF made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kp-taAseXpc

BTW, I've finally settled into my new job after 3 months of searching. I'm living in Daechi-Dong. I haven't been in touch with the Seoul Juggling Club since the first two meetings I went to. The language barrier and the fact that the meeting place was inside a subway station were factors in my lack of interest.

If any of you are still interested in meeting up some time. Lemme know.

~Ed

Ha ha...I was just thinking about juggling in class today and recalled a conversation I had with a juggler in a small bar in Hongdae. By the looks of the OP's avatar...it seems like that was you.

Might consider it...I'd like to move beyond 3 objects and basic tricks.

That was Bar Da (Da spelled with Korean letters). The guy who owns the place, Mr. Yoon, let me put on a show behind the bar one night. I was exremely intoxicated but I did an excellent show anyway. You must have met me on my birthday. I recall a bunch of waygooks being in there that night.
