| I'd figure you at high-average. I'm guessing 120. Tell us about The Anti-Chirst. |
Nice try. Go read it yourself. You might learn something. |
Come on, poser. Every teenager with acne has read The Anti-Christ.
Tell us about the supermen and their roles in the world.
You read, yet you do not understand.
Come on. Give us a lecture. |
Feel free to wikipedia it if you wish (since you're probably next to illiterate, and too chronically drunk to read a real book), but expect that I will butcher you on this topic when you slip up. Not that butchering you on any topic would be a thing to write home about, but just letting you know, I actually have read it, more than once.
Okay, here's a hint: the "superman" as you like to call it actually comes from a different book (same author). That and you keep mispelling the title...
I may explain more if you first admit that you're an idiot, and haven't actually read the book. |
Tell us, sir. Expand.
We want to hear all about the Ubermench. And they do play a prominent role in The Anti-Christ.
Explain. |

Well, I'm off to smoke a fag and drink a beer. Then I'll explain the whole deal, little man.
After that, I'm off to bed. Give me five. |

The 'overman' is an abstract idea. I'd love to hear your explanation of "they". From what I can tell so far you know very little of Nietzschean philosophy.

Well there's not much of a plot, so if you think you can sum up the philosophy, go for it. Just warning you, don't slip up cuz I'll notice.
I'd also appreciate it if you'd admit you're an idiot and haven't read the book...

I don't need any help. It's not that hard to explain.
Nietzsche had a brilliant mind--a mind that was being eaten away by syphillis. Nevertheless, it was brilliant however you care to look at it.
And like many greats before him, he was half a plagarist. He took the idea of the ubermench from Lord Byron.
So what was the role of the superman in German society? Well, these folks were above the law. It was their job to increase their greatness on the backs of the common folks--who, according to Nietzsche--were pretty much the play things of the ubermench.
In The Anti-Christ, Nietzsche brands Christianity as the religion of slaves. Basically, being a Christian means your're a weak sister.
And that makes sense because Jesus Christ was so anti-Superman. He was born like a slave. He was whipped like a slave. He was crucified like a slave.
Nietzsche was great--for the Nazis and the Red Communists that followed. His philosophy basically gave these groups freedom to kill. Was that his intention? Who knows? Like I said, this guy was brilliant, but he had a lot of corkscrews floating around in his head after the STD.
Am I saying that Nietzsche's books ought to be burned? Of course not.
This is what I'm saying: Don't put a frog ahead of a king.
Whether you are Christian or not, Jesus Christ was an absolute genius. His clarity of thought is unsurpassed.
And He loved people. I happen to be a person, so that works well for me.
Nietzsche was brilliant. But Jesus Christ is one of a kind. |

Man, your explanation was actually a lot worse than I though it would be...

Debatable. Though he did go 'insane' (my guess is just from being too damn smart).

Everyone's half a plagiarist. Nietzsche didn't take the 'overman' from Byron . Dumbass.

Completely wrong. You have absolutely no idea, blabbing away about societal roles etc. The 'overman' (a more accurate translation from German than 'superman') is an existential state of being. It has nothing to do with whatever the hell you think you're talking about.

Wrong again. He expounds on the notion of "slave-morality", another existential notion that has little or nothing to do with what you take it to mean literally.

Superficial and uninformative. You hardly even skim the surface. You first need to explain the difference between master and slave moralities (try reading On the Genealogy of Morals)

Under no circumstances does Nietzsche equate with the Nazis, or any other nationalists for that matter. While he had no great love for Judaism, it's an established fact he was completely against the kind of anti-Semitism present in Germany (he even mentions it explicitly in The Antichrist, had you read it). His sister, on the other hand, who had married an anti-Semite, later became a Nazi supporter and his name got posthumously dragged through the mud because of her.

But you wouldn't know, would you? Jesus never wrote a single thing. You have absolutely, positively zero idea what Jesus really thought. All you've got is the gospels, and all the made up crap that came from Paul. Nietzsche psychologically dissects, and then trounces Paul in The Antichrist (he devotes a whole section to it) and if you'd actually read the book you'd have known that.

You're not much of a person.

Sure there...
----------------
Conclusion: you haven't a clue. It's obvious you haven't read the actual book in question (or even the god-damned wikipedia blurb for that matter), and most of what you did say was just irrelevant biographical speculation, or a pitifully glossed over account of what goes on in his other books (the 'ubermensch' is dealt with mainly in Thus Spoke Zarathustra, and is never even mentioned by that name in The Antichrist).
Well, you tried, and you failed completely. Big surprise. |

Why try to personalize the debate? far from arrogant, I am a flawed human being, same as yourself. |
You are right, and I should not have taken it to personal blows the way I did.
It seems there's nowhere else to go in our conversation, so I'll leave it at that. I do hope you continue to research the Bible in an astute manner expected of one who displays your fervor. Please do read contextual studies. I would suggest, as a basic primer which will no doubt fascinate you in many instances, Handbook of Biblical Social Values by John Pilch and Bruce Malina. I'd give you my copy, but it's packed away somewhere in North Carolina. |

In those months of dialogue I also saw the devastation wrought by the passion for pseudo-scientific theories on natural history among some Christians. Many of my students believe that six-day creationism is an essential Christian beliefthat if the first chapters of Genesis can't be taken literally, then the whole Bible is a fraud. What tragic nonsense!
Before Greg and I corresponded, I didn't care. "You wanna believe the earth was created six thousand years ago? Whatever." But Greg helped me see that this kind of gaping ignorance promotes the perception that theologically conservative Christians are the enemies of learning.
I don't believe that scientists, the overwhelming majority of whom conclude that some evolutionary process has been underway, are part of a great demonic plot to undermine the Bible. I don't believe that scientists are lemmings, chirping the same supposedly anti-God tune. Greg's own doctoral dissertation shows that most leading evolutionary biologists don't think that religion and evolution are incompatible. |
