i lovelovelove the baths. there's one around the corner from me that i go to at least once a week. it's quite clean, and after the first couple of times there i haven't really attracted any looks. i'm pierced and tattooed, no one has flipped out, after all, i'm not korean.
i can easily spend a good 2 ~ 2.5 hours there, just soaking, napping and scrubbing.... ahh relaxation!

I used to go regularly, but then an old guy once told me to piss in the pool when I asked him where the bathroom was. Since that time, I went twice when I was out late drinking in Daejeon and needed to sweat out the vodka somewhere. That's always the most miserable way to wake up, though.
Checklist of waking up in a jimjilbang after a night of drinking:
☻ Achy back from sleeping on a wooden floor √
☻ Achy neck from sleeping with a wooden pillow the size of a tissue box √
☻ Blazing headache √
☻ Awareness that I slept only 3 hours because everyone is up at 7 am, or snoring loudly √
☻ Contacts stuck to my eyes, and burning √
☻ Eyeballs pulsating from the headache and contact combo √
☻ Breath reaking from last night's meat stuck between my teeth √
☻ Film of dried sweat being moistened by new sweat √
☻ Starving, but only food options being vinegar-boiled eggs and ramen soup √
☻ Everyone staring at me like what the hell is he doing here √
What I'm really curious about is if anyone has ever run into another foreigner at the jimjilbang, and how did you both respond. |

| Saunas are great places to catch foot diseases like athlete's foots and planter warts. This is a man talking from experience. The pain the dermatologist put me through while burning off some warts was enough to pursuade me to avoid jimjilbangs and saunas in Korea. Go at your own risk. |
