my school is trying to give me the shaft, and i need some help. i am at a public school. i didnt use all of my vacation. i have 8 days left. i want to use the 8 days of saved vacation as the final days of my contract. the school says no. so, i need to know if anyone else has done this. i was given advice by a teacher helping me out with this, and he said to get examples of people and schools where this has been done. is anybody willing to say 'yes, my school did this for me. my name is X and i worked at X school'? please pm me if you can help me out.
thank you.

i dont quite enderstand your post. resign and get 2 weeks of vacation and 2 way ticket?? Let me clarify my situation. i have been here for 11 months. nearing the end of my contract. the tickets are not an issue, getting extra vacation is not an issue. im not trying to screw the school out of vacation time, im just trying to use the 8 days i have left over as the final 8 days of my contract. has anybody done this???

In a similar position elsewhere - however, not in Korea - I was given payment for unused vacation days after I finished working for the employer (about 10 days worth of payment). It was agreed to about 1 month before I was due to finish.

I think that you need to find out asap whether you'll be given vacation or payment, then you need to decide whether you want to stir up a commotion with your employers by politely insisting on one or the other. If it's in your contract, you are legally entitled to those vacation days or equivalent payment. If you've got nothing to lose by trying to get the vacation or payment, then I'd go for it. They're hardly going to fire you at this stage, right?

This past summer, I had a total of 7 days vacation time left from this past contract. My school gave me those 7 days, plus the two weeks for resigning, plus my left over sick days. So, I got to go home in August for the entire month with pay. It was nice. Originally I thought I only had about 3 weeks, but then when my coteacher piped up about the left over sick days, she threw those in too. It was great.

You should be able to use those 8 days as you please, considering you are entitled to them. And it sounds as though you are finishing during Winter vacation anyway...so why does your school care if you finish a week earlier? What's the big deal?
