i work at a middle school. over vacation, i am going to write a choose your own adventure book. (the books that are like a game, you go to different pages depending on what you decide to do in the book, often there are dice to fight monsters or whatever).

i think my basic theme will be the student is in the korean special forces and was captured. he is in north korea somewhere and must get back to south korea. the teachers said violence is ok to make it interesting.

first question:has anyone even tried something like this? can they share their wisdom?

second question: if someone else is interested, i am not very good with adding pictures, drawing, and computers. i am good at writing and developing systems and models to use. so i can write the story, i can develop the game system and make it workable, but i need help turning it into a book with nice pictures and stuff like that. anyone interested?

i dont know the exact details yet, but this will be for my advanced third graders, and depending on the difficulty, i would make some dumbed down versions for lower levels.

There's an online one here created for Taiwanese students of ESL:

I think the online concept is better. You can change things you wrote. You can create more options. You can illustrate it much more creatively. You also don't get students turning the pages to cheat.

Don't use the North Korea thing.

The ofcourse Koreans are completly imagineless people so I don't know how popular this activity will be.

I agree about using North Korea but I'm tempted to contest the notion that Koreans don't have an imagination. Go into a DVD shop and you'll probably see many rows of highly imaginative fantasy novels, while on the Internet they are often particularly fond of playing fantasy/role-playing games which require imagination.

i dont think that koreans are imagineless people.
asking them to do it in English might be beyond them.
As well for some students, they seem to worry more about the 'right' answer causing them to play it safe more than to be extreme.
