If I get a money order from Nonghyup or another bank what do I look for to make sure it can be cashed in the US?

I know it needs to be in US Dollars.

Does it need a routing number and account number like a check?

If they give me a bank check instead will it still work?

AMEX Traveler's Cheques, all the way dude. They're secure, insured, and reliably exchanged anywhere in the world that you'd want to go. Don't risk any nonsense with Korean bank-issued checks.

I believe the difference between a money order and traverlwes checks is that you cant...............actually i dont know!

I usually just purchase a money order if i need to send someone money or if i want stash some money in my US bank acct. Its cheaper than wiring it.

Except that I'm in podunk. I'm looking at missing a day of work and a bus ride to buy a money order. If I wire it to my fathers account then I'm looking at around 13000 won here and I think my father said his bank told him $10 to receive it.

I'm guessing the exchange rate might be a little better on the wire transfer though. Do they charge the cash rate for money orders? -Jeff
