Well, Mary Travers was the lead singer on Peter, Paul and Mary's "Leaving on a Jet Plane" (written by John Denver who eventually left the world after a plane crash...) Probably one of the most sentimental/emotional pop classics...

There are too many great songs written/sung by too many great women. Kate Bush gets to me every time. Yesterday I was listening to Annie Lennox singing the Eurythmic's song I Love You Like a Ball and Chain, and thinking "Wow!" Does anyone remember that song? All that passion and unrequited love! Lennox's extraordinary vocals... My spine tingled...
