China won't kill detainee, MacKay says
Actually, I could care less about the article. It's the title that bothers me. Why would they (or MacKay, who seems to have said that) not use the word "execute"? Well, I do know why, but I think this is bad reporting. If it is a direct quote, I wouldn't have used it for a title. If it isn't a direct quote, I most definitely would have used the word "execute".
I just found it strange, I have never seen an article use the word "kill" for the word "execute" before. |

| Execute implies some sort of legalised killing ie the state exectued Mr. Murder. They do basically mean the same thing though, just a subtle difference in tone. Perhaps its because Canada doesn't have the death penalty? |

Look, I am 100% against executions, and anyone who disagrees with me is evil, uncaring or just plain stupid Who knows how many innocents have died under "executions"? It's so final.
But I still find there is a difference between the word "kill" and "execute". |

What abotu when there is no question as to whm cmmited the crime: IE Adolf Hitler's holocaust.
The world saw in horror the things hitler had done. If he were alive today, don't you think hed deserve execution? |

There is always a question. Always. Humans are falliable. While I don't believe this, what if someone was controlling Hitler somehow, and he had no choice (again, for the stupid people, I don't believe this).
Plus, having someone who did do that (or anything major) in jail for ever is not only a harsher punishment (if that's what you want), but it's also a better deterent for others who would do the same. |
