Otis, Otis, Otis...your own material has been receiving such short shrift you've become an opportunist?
It seems you've become...

He overreacted to getting heckled. |

I agree. It's a nasty, racist word. "Overreacting" is no excuse. Anyone with the slightest bit of intelligence knows better than to use racist language toward anyone of any race. If they use it anyway, I think it shows their true colors. |

So what does it say about me when I refer to myself as a "코쟁이"? |

I was looking at that thread where everyone is all assed up because Micheal Richards used the N-word! True. He didn't use wise judgment screaming it out several times in public.
But I use the N-word all the time. I even use it on white people.
I also use the C-word. That's my all time favorite.
And all I want to know is the truth. Have you ever said the N-word?
If you've never said it, then you have the right to all your moral outrage.
But if you have said it,--even whispered under your breath--then you're no better than Michael Richards or a dumb redneck like me.
So fess up! Have you said it? |
I use **** alot, ever since I've become a big fan of Deadwood. Oh, i used ********* alot too. |

What I love about the c-word is it's absolute vulgarity.
If you were in the pit of hell and yelled the c-word, everything would go silent.
Satan then would send you an e-mail requesting you to change your behavior.
It's such an ugly word but powerful nonetheless. |

| The most offensive word I ever used was "skronk." I had a class of fourth-year English majors squirming in their seats. |

Please calm down!
You're a wild man!
I'm just glad you didn't use the n-word.
We all hate Michael Richards because of that. |

| I've said it, but I've never said it on stage. Big differnce in my opinion. There's no problem using the word nigger or any other word in a performance. I see no problem with Jay Leno calling Oprah Winfrey a nigger on his show or off stage, but then it depends how he uses it off stage. |

| Is it possible to use such a word simply because its the most offensive available and you really wished to insult that person? Does using it once make you racist? |

Depends on who you ask (see the other thread).
For what it's worth...I don't think using the word MAKES you a racist. You are a racist, or you are not a racist. A racist who says 'n*gger' was a racist long before he/she said the word. It isn't a magic incantation that magically turns an otherwise normal person into a racist.
Further, there are lots of racists who NEVER use the word. That's why I, IMHO, I don't think that the word itself is a 'smoking gun' for racism. Stupidity and ignorance maybe, but for racism, no. |

| Gee, those folks were offended. I am now teaching in an urban school in the US. If I had a dollar for every time I heard that word coming out of the mouthes of a black students, I could double my salary. Cut me a break! |
