Hi everyone. I've been offered a job at the Language Education Institute at Chosun Univ. in Gwangju, but I'm having trouble getting straight answers from them regarding pay, holiday, hours, etc. So, I'm wondering if anyone out there has worked for / is working for / knows someone who has worked for / knows someone who is working for that university. I've tried doing a search, but can't find anything (this may or may not have something to do with my lack of computer skills).
To be specific, I am wondering about:
1) basic pay (I've been told it's 2.2, but then I was told it's 1.6, and I was told that it could get as high as 3.2 with overtime)
2) what schedules are usually like
3) they don't provide housing, but do they provide a housing allowance? Also, how hard is it to find affordable housing near the University? I'll only have about 5 million won for a deposit for an apartment.
4) I was told it's a month's holiday in winter and a month in summer; is that month all together, or is it two weeks, then a camp, then two weeks? Is it paid holiday?
I've e-mailed the teacher coordinator twice, but my questions didn't get answered. I asked to be put in touch with someone who currently works there, but was never answered. But they want me to send my documents and sign a contract...
Thanks in advance for any help/advice you can give me Smile

Beware.

If you are getting jerked around when you don't have any legal commitments, just wait to see how they'll try to indignify you one you are legally committed to them.

A professional place to work provides clear, direct answers to all the questions you asked.

Screw all he said they said. Ask for the contract and you can check it out for yourself. If you don't like something in your contract, ask them to change it or add it. If not, look for another job. Simple as that.

Don't ever trust Koreans on their words. Put everything in writing.

And then keep an eye on things so they don't try to go against what they've promised in the contract, too.
