Interesting what Qinella says there....

In the past, I also noticed some people who would swing between fervent religious practices and drugs. Like they were similar feelings or something.

Are Christians better adjusted than the rest of us? Of course not. Religion does not make one 'better'. It just makes the person think they are. Who can best judge how balanced a person is? Themselves? Friends/family?

Have you tried wearing a shorter skirt?

Yeah! And don't give up on Gang ah jee. He really doesn't care where he gets it from. He's a bit of a strumpet.

I kind of agree with this. but I don't think that it has anything to do with thinking it can't get better. That implies hopelessness.
Happy people don't feel hopelessness do they?

Happy people have certainly accepted their lot in life but I think that they see value in it. They reprioritize their life in such a way as to realize that what they are doing is what they WANT to be doing.

I don't mean in the hopeless kind of way. I realized quite early on I would never be an astronaut, and quickly decided I would never be one no matter how hard I tried (just my eyes were against me, let alone other things). There was nothing 'hopeless' about it. Maybe giving up, but in a good way.

I have some happy, well-adjusted relatives who happen to be Christian -- and a few of them are pushing 90. I have other kinds of people in my family too, who are also Christians. I'd be very surprised if any religion (or non-religious persuasion) turned out a higher percentage of happier or better-adjusted people than any other. I also think the question is a bit odd, because you don't choose a religion to find happiness. You either believe in it or you don't ... I don't, and I know I wouldn't have been very happy continuing as a member of a religion I don't honestly believe in.

What the...where did that come from? You can start being an astronaut in 2009 if you have $200,000 and a few years later the price is going to come way down. Of course you'll be an astronaut. You'll be a Welsh-speaking astronaut.

It is a little out of the blue. I meant when I was in jr. high school. Just my eyesight alone cancelled any of those plans. I do want to go to space sometime, especially when it's cheaper. But I would have liked to do that as my job, not just a trip up to the station. I also wanted to be a fighter jock. No such luck.

Think of all the glory I could bring to Wales.

That's right eamo. I'd be perfectly willing to waive the 'latina' and 'atheist' conditions as long as the 'hot' and 'in Wellington' conditions were met.

Traditional church-going Christians seem to be a normal, happy bunch, and they generally keep quiet about it.

It's the modern fundamentalist Christian types who look a bit funny. They often have no particular affiliation - just 'Christian' - and they come across as insecure and a bit fake.

Just my prejudice about them: perhaps there are many well-adjusted fundies that just flew under my radar, but can't say I'm wrong about people I'm acquainted with anyway.

When I was younger, I was a Cub Scout (a junior form of the Boy Scouts of America Organization). The Mormons administered the program in my area, so I had an opportunity to befriend them, go to their churches, and go to their homes.

From what I recollect, they were exceedingly kind, happy, graceful, and tolerant. Of course one could say that in childhood, one can be ignorant of superficiality and partiality. However, I did find that within the context of my purely good memories, the Mormons tended to be much happier and well-balanced than others who weren't religious.

Once in awhile you see church services from the States where everyone has their hands raised and look like they are on ecstacy. They all seem to be in a state of bliss.

I have heard that statistics state that regular church-goers are healthier and happier?

Of course, you have the really strange ones that stand on street corners, but overall don't they encourage a healhtier lifestyle, family values and a good moral compass?

I am not talking about Korea - that is a different story. I heard of two juicy girl bar onwers in Itaewan that attends church every Sunday. Also, when I taught businessmen, they would go to room salons on Saturday night and be in church twe next day.

In my experience fundamentalist Christians are not a happy bunch but they pretend they are.

And personally I find their intolerance intolerable.

Of course they are happy. They are lying to themselves! Take away the lie and the happiness disappears.

Now Catholics, they know how to be miserable.
