Cannot install MSN Messenger

For some reason it will not install. It says :error code 1603, go to messenger.live.com for latest version," or something like that. A bit annoying because sometimes it would be good to chat on the thing.

Any idea what's up?

There are other IM's that can use the Messenger network like Trillian or so

just shop around

AIM might also be an option

I think I had trouble getting yahoo messenger installed too. I know a few people who use MSN, so I prefer that one.

Could my computer be blocking the installion for some reason?

I had some problems trying to install live on win 98...


make sure its XP... or try installing an older version...

The newest MSN may not work with NON ENGLISH XP. Try installing MSN 7.x, not the newest Live Beta ver 8.

Also make sure you have an up to date Internet Explorer of ver 6.0.2900 .

Some computers are not set to auto update the Windows and IE .

This is true, but Trillian uses a pre-6.0 MSN Messenger engine and therefore can't handle many of the functions offered in any of the releases that came after 6.0, aside from just the most basic chatting functions.

I could be just a dummy though for not getting it right.
