I don't see the problem there. Church can be peaceful for some people. It can be a way to be part of the social community. It could even be good for business contacts. I've heard of foreigners going to church as a way to get private students.
It's also human enough to be inconsistent and contradictory in behavior one day to the next. Not that attending church makes you a good person anyway. Some (sanctimonious) churchgoers are really despicable creatures.
On the other hand, there does seem to be a bit of hypocrisy involved. Let's dress up nice and appear respectable to others, then be our usual a$$ hole selves the rest of the time.
I think of church as like going to the movies, being entertained,
or shaving, a habit, a way to look clean. |

Interesting post. I'm not a churchgoer. I do think church is little more than a social opportunity in Korea. Also I'm not evangelical nor do I place much store in trance-like displays. neither is it about being happy for me... christians are expected to undergo persecution, trials, and temptations. It does not depend on any feelings or sensations for me either. (although I always get a strong feeling when reading the bible.)Its necessarily.. not easy to live up to it in this world.
For me its above all a deep belief, conviction. In my teen years and early 20's I left it behind and indulged in all the usual vices. However I never stopped believing. it has always made sense to me. Of course, it is not designed for success or riches in this world, it does not follow or fit the rules of people. it goes against the earthly existence. But..i fear God, and the truth of what is written in the bible is often tapping me on the shoulder and apparent in what I see around me everyday. it has taught me to believe and have faith i what is ahead, in things I can't see or fully understand.
talking of adjustment..My time out from it gave me a new perspective which was useful. i'd also say..people whoo have never given christianity a second thought would be better adjusted if they did. |

| I think it's naive to believe we can put ourselves in other people's shoes and know what would make someone else happy or unhappy. |

I do have expereince in the Christian world and I believe, expereinced and seen that too strong of a personality behind the pulpit can almost be "cultlike". I have seen many people become blind followers.
I have heard things like
"Don't touch God's anointed"That means do not question or criticize them.
There are all kinds of scriptures and cliches they use to impose their will.
In stating this, I have seen truly humble men and women who do tons of good in this world and lead simply by example.
I know this gets away from my original topic
