The only thing Korean police are good for is the entertainment they provide when responding to a call.
The other night I went to visit my friend who teaches at an institute for high school kids in Mokdong. The class let out at midnight and while we were getting ready to leave we heard a ruckus outside. Looking out of the 2nd floor window we could see a shirtless ajossi punching the bus driver of the school van. My friend called the po po, and I went outside to investigate at which time the perp took his pants off to reveal his tighty whities.
Actually, his tighty whities were grey and he had them pulled up past his belly button. Anyhow, he was flexing and spewing obscenities. He then grabs some kid's mountain bike, holds it above his head and slams it to the ground.
A 5-minute pushing match ensued until the police arrived. The 2 cops tried to reason with the dumbass drunk. Why? Because they are stupid and don't know how to take control of a situation. In police presence, the drunk bastard shoved a women with a mighty force and they didnt seem to care. After that he smashed a scooter to the ground and started dragging it.
The idiots called for backup and a car showed up, the backup cops arrived, looked out the window of their cop car, and then they drove away. I could not believe it!
A few minutes later two other cop cars showed up. We had 6 cops at the scene, and I thought they would get the situation under control. But no, I was wrong, they let the drunk go into his downstairs "barbershop." Why? Because they are idiots!
Finally, after about 5 more minutes they brought him out of the building handcuffed. It took them about 5 more minutes to get him into the car. IDIOTS.
Because of their inability to take control of the situation he was able to damage property and threaten the safety of children and an innocent female.
I wish they would buy some tazers and zap out of control drunks.
Here are some training videos they should watch to see how its done by professional police officers. These three videos demonstrate what you should do with suspects that don't comply.

I'll post a story! Once I was walking home, talking on my cell phone, near my house. I was in a very serious conversation with a friend of mine and my house was a half-basement apartment with terrible cell phone reception. So I stopped off at this little mini-park that they had on the road.
Now, its late, maybe 10pm, there's no lights except the streetlight, and I'm sitting on the bench talking on the cell phone. Three cops come up the sidewalk to the park, swaggering all in a row and talking to each other. When they see me, all three of them stop walking and talking, obviously unsure and scared of the lone shaven-headed foreigner sitting on a park bench talking on the phone.
After a few seconds they start talking again, giving me a wide berth just like children do when they see me and I'm not smiling. I sure did feel safe and secure that night!
and those taser vids are great! |

| First story is filarious. The best part was the bit about the guy taking off his pants for a fight and then tossing around a bike to display his masculinity. Absolutely mad. |

This isn't the first time I've seen the pants off posturing.
Why do they take their pants off? |

Walking home after work one night around 10pm, was about to cross at the crosswalk near my house and two drunk ajosshis are WAILING on each other. Full-on punches to the face, windmill arm action, headlocks, knees to the nads, the whole shebang.
Why is that funny? They were immediately across from a police station, and 5 cops were outside smoking and watching these two guys beat on each other. This fight went a good 5 minutes and not one cop so much as crossed the street. Both guys ended up sitting on the sidewalk with blood streaming from their noses and all over their suits.
Cops went back inside after their break was over. |

During my second week in Korea, I was sitting out in front of a Buy the Way during a work break. It was the middle of July, and two police men walked by with their arms around each other both having an ice cream. I was like and my co-worker who had been here for a while was like . |

When the pants come off, look out...
Ricky, Trailer Park Boys
I don't know if I have the flyer anymore, but about 8 yeras ago when I was living in Jeonju a cop left his jacket and GUN in a PC Bang. They actually put flyers up around the neighbourhood with a picture of the jacket and the gun. 'Have you seen this gun?'
I sent it to a cop friend back home. He put it up in his station...He and his buddies got a good laugh out of that one. |

WRT The first incident:
Did you expect the cops to shoot him? Did you expect them to taser him? Ofcourse the drunk fool was a fool, but I think the cops did the right thing in not escalating the situation. IMHO cops are not there to exert force.
On the other hand it definitely is stupid for the other cops to just drive past. Do you know what happened after the incident? Was the old man charged with anything? I am not sure if you would be interested in finding out what happened post funny part. That is the pants dropping scene. |

What about the guy attacking a random bystander and damaging personal property? |

WRONG! They need to exert the force necessary to get unruly suspects under control.
I expected the cops to protect and serve. This means that they should have prevented him from shoving the innocent woman, threatening the students, and damaging someone's property (the scooter). The drunk was out of control the whole time and could have injured someone including himself. They allowed a dangerous situation to continue for a long period of time.
A real police officer would have handcuffed and stuffed that scumbag in a patrol car in under a minute. Yes, I wanted them to tazer him and tazer him good. Instead they let him play out his twisted drama to the detriment of the woman, the students, and the owner of the scooter. He deserved a beating!
What happened afterwards? I don't know because I did not go to the police station. |

Miss Jade says shoot em! Don't kill em or anything just knee capping will suffice. The police here are just on the whole young guys doing their version of military service. I actually have some empathy.

In Daejeon I used to see police cars on patrol with 4 cops per car. Guess they planned on putting any suspects in the trunk? |
