So, uh, moving to NZ and getting the government to pay for your nicotine gum is a good way to quit.

But make sure you've got enough weed ready for when you finish the gum programme. And that's all I have to say on the matter of "cigarettes".

Most realize the creator's herb is FAR superior to the phony so-called "tobacco" products, sprayed with "legal" killer poisons, addictive chemicals etc.

i smoked for 14 years and finally quit after my brother died of cancer and i got diagnosed with a lung/lymph disease. i had to go on zyban though, couldn't do it on my own. by that point i was smoking just to feed the addiction, i certainly didn't enjoy it. i didn't touch a cigarette for 5 years, until coincidentally, shortly after i returned to korea. okay, the day i arrived i bummed a smoke off the woman i replaced. since i've been here, i've actually purchased cigarettes, 3 packs total, though for the most part i've only been smoking on the weekend when i'm out partying. the last pack i bought is currently hiding in a box that will be a pain in the ass to get into, the idea being that if i have to work to get a cigarette, then i'll have time to stop myself. so far i haven't broken into that box yet... if there was decent weed here, this wouldn't be an issue. i could be smoking that and not even want nicotine...
i do not want to become a smoker again.
i have terrible self-control.
good luck man.

Get ready to fail, and then try again... fail... try again... Rinse. Repeat. Most people don't quit on their first attempt.

The only way you are going to quit, is if you make the decision for YOURSELF. The only way you can succeed is if you really want it.

Avoid places that you associate with smoking (at first). Don't make excuses for smoking. Find a hobby for when you crave it. The gum/patch works as well. It'll be hard for the first month. Then you might sporadically crave it for the next 6 months or so (depends on the person), after that you should be fine. Good luck!

I'm also trying to quit. I've been dealing with some really awful withdrawal symptoms. I've cheated when I was drinking...I think I'll have to give that up as well if I hope to succeed. Anyways, I look at this everyday for inspiration.

Yep, that's the key. If you don't actually want to quit (just recognizing the benefits of quitting is not wanting to quit) then you will probably fail, and have a miserable time.

Really, I don't understand what all the fuss is about when it comes to quitting. I guess most people just don't have any self-control. I quit last year for about 40 days.. sure, the first three days were annoying, but after that it was no big deal. Why did I start again? Because I wanted to. It's kinda weird how smoking becomes part of one's identity. I felt too clean and wholesome without them. Like, I was missing something. Psychological addiction is stronger than physical addiction.

Anyway, just quit. It's not that hard. Don't waste money on bs gum an whatnot -- that is just stringing yourself along. Imagine you are told by some authority that you are never to sleep with your girlfriend/wife/fantasy woman again. You can just stop, or you can look at her naked and lick her pusois a couple times a day, with a condom over your tongue until you are cured of wanting to fvck her. Not a tough decision, really. One option sucks, the other is torture.

You can replace smoking with another habit.

When you feel like a smoke do something else, wash your hands, comb your hair, have a beer, walk around the house three times, put on lip balm, chew gum, push ups, or type a useless dimwitted diatribe in the current event forum.

It's subjective. My experience, random order:

1. Yep, go cold turkey. When a heroin addict wants to quit, he does so with heroin substitutes - things that aren't actually heroin. That's defensible, because you can withdraw, flush the smack out of your system, quit the subs, and then be fine, just about. A nicotine addict uses nicotine to quit nicotine. Doesn't make sense. Flush it out of your system ASAP. It's a couple of days job.

2. I personally cannot hack smoking any more - full-time, every day smoking that is. In the last year, after a heavy night, next day I'd get a lump of shyt in my throat that just wouldn't go away all day. I knew it was a temporary mass of crap because it always went away the day after, but it was still a disgustingly unhealthy feeling. The best way to quit smoking is to receive a scare. That'll give you the motivation. I haven't entirely quit because I smoke at weekends (possibly 20 cigs in total maximum) but I'm quite happy with that right now.

3. Beat cravings by exercise. Intensive exercise at the gym alleviates hunger and cravings for nicotine.

4. I always thought "if you wanna quit smoking, you've gotta quit drinking" because smoking whilst drinking is unavoidable. Quitting drinking completely is also not an option for me. I simply don't want to. I've been working, straightheaded, saintly behaviour all week long - the weekend is my big prize, to become an animal, forget my existence as a responsible person, get royally fooked-up and have a lovely lie-in in the morning.

5. If at all possible, go part-time. Start by quitting your morning, breakfast cig. Sound difficult? Thats the easy bit. You will quickly view smoking within hours of waking up absolutely foul. Then quit at work. Cig breaks at work are the lowest form of life. Especially when working with Korean women (who do not smoke 9/10) and kids. By the end of your work day, you will truly want to smoke the cravings drive you mad, but remember, cravings are like the cold in Korea they come and go, come and go. It is NOT a permanent thing at all! After a week, they come less frequently. First day of withdrawal, you'll get several per hour. Then quit in the evenings too. Smoke when you drink - your body gets used to it and I rarely crave a cigarette when straightheaded.

6. Think about how smoking makes you prematurely age. That'll motivate ya! Wanna look 50 when you're 40? I bloody don't. I wanna sh@g birds half my age when I'm 40.

7. Crucial stuff: Think about all those cigs you had that you only half, or even 25%, wanted. Some cigarettes are truly pleasurable, that nicotine high, the satisfaction of that craving - it's pure bliss. But very few of the cigs one actually smokes fall under this description. It's called a HABIT for good reason.

8. Addiction is mostly in your head. Importantly, if you're not fully motivated, don't even bother trying to quit. You'll make yourself miserable.

9. Quitting nicotine is nowhere near as difficult as is made out. Quitting alcohol or other drugs is a terribly difficult ordeal - insomnia, aching body, suicidal depression. If you cant quit or substantially cut your cig habit, youre a wimp.

Drink lots of water.

I only smoke on weekends now, at work. I have been on phase one of the patch for the last two years... Down to half a patch (cheaper than buying the weaker ones at the same huge price) yes, the patch is better for you but its also addictive. If you happen to use this method, don't do like I do: Keep away from cigarettes entirely and follow the instructions.

oh yeah one more thing...

also when I had first just quit....
when I woke up in the moring I broke a cigarette instead of smoking one..
sounds dumb but it really gave me the power of self control for the whole day and then if I did crack later in the day and have one I would feel incredibly guilty....

I still get cravings maybe once a day.... but they pass quicked now at least...

Puffery... i thought this was a thread on homosexuality

It is so easy to stop smoking. I quit smoking at least twice every year. Very Happy

tuesday saw me passing the one month marker for not smoking fags. Im not particularly impresssed with myself because ive been here so many times before,

My excuse for starting again before was always that the weed got me back into it so it .... this is my first time quitting in Korea. As it is I am already starting to say to myself... 'I was happy when i was smoking, maybe i should start again.....'

The best way to stop is to not start smoking in the first place.
