Vegetarian food is usually really good nowadays. Also, in most cases, very healthy. I have nothing against vegetarianism (who would). I have something against vegetarians though, as over 60% of the ones I have met have been cuckoo.

I think that I have to agree with Jinju on this one. <waiting for the lightening to strike me down> I've never really understood the whole fake meat thing. It's just artiface. I'm a vegetarian, and I've never really found fake meat interesting at all, ever. For protein, I eat eggs and cheese, and drink milk; and I'm okay with it (so back-off you vegan freaks), <waiting for more lightening> I just don't understand why you would want to fool yourself <again lightening> Forgive the metaphor, but it's like being a recovering heroin addict taking methadone for rest of your life (it's a bad metaphor, I know, but I can't think of anything more serviceable right now).

Seconded, but I'd put it at closer to 75%. They all look unhealthy too, overly thin and pale, sunken eyes, as well as being lethargic, and moody...

Not everyone is addicted to seitan. I personally can take it or leave it, but I don't feel the need to avoid it at all costs. There's no moral issue with seitan because an animal wasn't killed or tortured to make it. Eggs, cheese and milk are definitely problematic, OTOH.

All these observations are based on the scientific method, of course. Rolling Eyes

I don't "avoid it at all costs", I've just never found it interesting or understood why you would go to the trouble. As for eggs, etc. I know all the arguments, and I'm not interested. They are a rewable resource (there must be a better way to phrase that) which require less energy to produce. I'm happy to support ethical producers (e.g. free-rangers) wherever I can find them, but the opportunities for that aren't that great yet.

You don't have a dog, do you? I'd hate to think that you've been part of the enslavement of an entire species for something as trivial as your personal pleasure, companionship and entertainment.

I don't "go to any trouble" for seitan -- I'll eat it once in a while, if it's in a vegan dish that I feel like trying. And I don't support the breeding of domesticated animals. I do support spaying, neutering and adoption.

Dude, I see and understand that you love animals. What I don't see is how you can't understand humans wanting to eat them. Do you really put your "feelings" above 100 million or so years of evolution? Get a grip.

DB, some of us just think it tastes good. Nothing complicated about it. No agenda.

And lgg is basically right about a lot of them being freakoids, but I would say, Sir, that you are beginning to show signs of that which thee hate. Developing a bit of a complex, no? You are going to start alienating us good veggies.

Actually, I would like to see a show of hands on the issue. I bet we find that there are more normal veggies(or ex-veggies) on the board than the blue prancey/red adoption types.

Think: kermo, Hater Depot, Moi, Kwwhitehead(no?) Q was one(and there are issues there, but he's relatively sane, and I know Jongnoguru is Vegan and Sparkles is a macrobiotic.

See?

But let's really see: Rushes off to start a new thread...

No, he's not even a proper vegetarian from what I hear.

I started cutting meat & poultry entirely from my meals for part of each year, up to six months, and then went back to being an omnivore the rest of the year. I made quite a production of it, marking the start & end dates on the calendar, celebrating the opening of "meat-eating season" with a nice & pricey rack of lamb at the Ninth Gate in the Westin Chosun.

It had nothing to do with religion, ethics or health. I simply felt better and stronger physically for it. That was my little personal tradition, it continued for several years, and now it's over. Today I just avoid meat whenever possible all the time, no more marking the calendar. If I'm dining out with friends or bizzypeople and there's no decent non-meat options, I'll join in and have whatever they're having without making any fuss.

Is there such a thing as "situational vegetarianism"? I think that's me. In any case, I don't eat even 10% of the amount of meat I used to, the amount that was normal in the West before I left it. Do I encourage more people to follow my example? No, because my reasons are entirely personal and selfish.

I like it. Coined.

Actually, strict Buddhists aren't supposed to refise food that is offered to them so they are all situational Buddhists, technically. But of course we've all known you are a Buddhist for quite some time as well...
