It's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. |

Well, if that's your genuine plan does it really matter where you go at all? Take your money, screw your employer, and bugger off.

Yeah, really. I hate being negative, but this pisses me off. |

Personally, I think that anyone who is planning on doing a midnight run before a contract even begins is a real waste of human flesh. Not only are you a coward but you are purposefully screwing someone over. Probably in your own country you steal pension cheques from old women.
I don't have anything against someone who does a midnight run. If the case warrants it. Some directors screw you over and won't give a release. I did one once a long time ago but it was a bad situation. The director and I had a disagreement and I told him that he was unreasonable and I couldn't work for him anymore. It was about halfway into the month and just left without collecting my wages. I even left an extra 100,000 to pay for any bills that might have accrued.
All of that aside. If someone comes to Korea, knowing that he/she will not finish a contract or give notice, he/she is the lowest piece of scum that exists and should not be given any help on this or other web pages. |

Agreed. Besides, people like that make the rest of us look bad.
If you're already planning on bailing after 3 months, come on a tourist visa & teach privates. |

Not only will he screw over his coworkers who have to cover for his missing classes, he'll also screw over any future teacher who have to deal with whatever over-reaction the boss writes into the contract.
Like a 200,000 won a month "damage deposit" to be returned at the end of the contract, or something similar. |

I bet this piece of $hit we will call a teacher is one of those a$$es who borrows money right before you leave.
Get lost! if you aren't even going to try, why bother coming here? Why not go to Japan and grace them with your stench. |

You guys are right. I hadn't really considered the implications of breaking contract in this manner. The whole idea was suggested to me by one of the teacher-trainers at my TEFL certification school, but looking back on things now, that individual in particular probably wasn't someone I should be gleaning ethical advice from.
I'm going to look for a six-month contract instead, and if I can't find that then I'll just head back to the states to save money for an eventual move to Japan.
Sorry to piss all of you off. Pardon me for my ignorance. |

| You can leave any time you like, just be up front with your boss about it. |
