With Korea being as overtly protectionist and xenophobic as it is, everything is a huge pissing contest for foreign businesses operating here, and for foreigners trying to live and work here (read: Lone Star, Carrefour, Walmart, DDD workers, English teachers, et al).
Therefore, the only motivation driving foreign companies and for foreigners is to get in, get their piece of the pie, and get out quickly. No incentive to stay for the long haul other than that, whatsoever. Koreans themselves have created this scenario. In effect, they are promoting the rape of their own country.
Congratulations, morons. |

Mr. Knife, you used to be side-splitting hilarious.
It sounds like you need to recharge your batteries on a beach in South East Asia. |

I agree with the OP.
They should have a war, a "Korean War" in which they destroy everything and start all over. |

Who's raping whom? Rape isn't rape if both parties consent to it. |

I have no doubt that the suspicion and hostility to foreign investment and immigration will have severe consequences in the long run when more inviting countries scoop up the businessmen and the teachers. But the rape analogy doesn't fit at all. Some of us need a holiday especially badly!

Lone Star, Carrefour, Wal-mart, English teachers....we all "rape" Korea by coming in here, making our money, and getting the hell out without "doing enough" for Korea. That's how Koreans see it. I know because (a) I read the right newspapers and magazines (b) I've lived here forever and (c) I have a Korean family.
For instance, Koreans across the board believe that Lone Star "took advantage" of Korea's poor economy (regardless of whether or not the prosecution's allegations against them prove to be true) by buying into Korea during a time of need, making assloads of money, contributing nothing, or very little, to Korea, and then attempting to sell and get out with billions.
Koreans accuse English teachers of being "mercenary" or "greedy". We come in, we make our cash, and we send it all home (most of it, anyway) to pay off debts or whatever back in our home countries. In Koreans' eyes, that's wrong (which is why they try to keep tabs on, and limit, the amount you send home).
Koreans despise all these things, yet they brought it upon themselves by behaving in a way that makes foreigners want to get the hell out of dodge as soon as we earn a little coin; ergo, foreigners are raping Korea; Koreans brought it upon themselves.
My post may sound "whiny" to you, but the economics are sound. I don't need a beach retreat to see the truth of the matter. I'm like that sitar in that movie that "Only speaks the truth." Sometimes, the truth hurts. |

I'd agree with Mack that a few, sad, netizen, ultra-nationalist types, or Koreans down on their luck and looking for someone to blame, will lash out at the foreign influences bearing on Korea for their misfortune or their perceived hurt.
I wouldn't say all Koreans though. Most Koreans are blissfully unaware of anything but their income, the value of their apartment, and which kind of jiggae they are having for dinner. |

If this were true, multinational corporations and foreign investors would be all over this place like stink on sh*t. As it is, very few are willing to take the risk and this whole KEB/Lone Star debacle will probably set Korea back a few years (in the whole globalization race thingy). |

Hi mack the knife,
Good points. Just ignore the apologist rants. You ARE speaking the truth..and NOTHING is stronger than that. Koreans ARE the biggest victims..they complain about everything..especially..God forbid if it concerns a foreigner..foreign business, etc.
BUT,GOOD NEWS! I read not long ago that because So. Korean women are not having enough babies (WAY TO GO So. Koreans!!),there's going to be a huge labor shortage and BIG population decline here in the future. There's a labor shortage here now. Hence, the increasing import of S.E. Asian, etc. workers..because So. Koreans won't do the 3D jobs. But,I'm sure that foreigner's will be blamed for this by yes..the neurotic, xenophobic and racist Goreans. ** YES,it would be an excellent idea to start over with this country in a HUGE way! |

I'm not sure if the whole "tearing it all down and starting from scratch" thing is the way to go, but getting rid of (through the democratic process) that useless assmunch President Noh would be a good start. |
