Just came across this- a real treasure (it's been out since 2004, so maybe I'm the last here to know):

I've recommended it here at Dave's. As has another poster.

Typing in the author's last name into the search function shows another thread on it:

And recommended here:

And I talk about that bookth that other, different kind of cartoon coverage of Korea, Korea Unmasked, here:

I read it a year or so ago after getting it at the new national museum gift shop. It was a little pricy but I didn't mind. It's by a French animation artist working with the regime to improve its standards in that field and his visual depictions give a reall good feel for the place, in fact, he communicates more in that format, not through individual panels but through the ministories and experiences he captures. It's a very mature work, like a journalistic report told through atmospheric cartoon drawings. A simple straightforward style that really works for what he wants to do with it.

I had it, and then gave it away someone along with most of my comics because I feel the love needs to be shared.

Very good read. Everyone should buy a copy.

I'm sorry I missed all those threads on it before- it's great stuff, and I see he's got one on his trip to China too.
