EPIK contracts include a non-paid 'Orientation Period of 1 - 2 weeks.
The contract states that this OP is not part of the contract period, so the Employee is not paid during this time.

- Can anyone tell me what the visa status is for the Orientation Period?
- Does the E2 start on the 1st day of the contract? On the first day of teaching?
If so, what visa do teachers on the OP need?

Also, if the New EPIK Middle School teachers Orientation Period is at a Korean university, or similar institution, who pays for the accommodation, food etc?
Appreciate any help.

You enter on your E2 but their is NO salary for you during the training period. You will have to EXTEND your visa at a later time to match your contract termination date (or departure date).

EPIK pays for the expenses (food and lodging) during your training period.

You should have your visa before you come to Korea for orientation, which you will use to enter the country. The visa will be for one year so you will have to extend it just before your contract expires. Your school will help you with this.

You will stay at the dorm of the Korea National University of Education, where the EPIK Office is located. Your meals will be in the cafeteria, except for during field trips when EPIK will pay for them.

I found EPIK Orientation to be quite good but did find myself anxious to get to my POE in Jeju by the time it finished.

I did the late EPIK orientation for Kyoung buk, and it was three days. I had been teaching for a week before they called and told me I had to attend. They had originally told me I didnt' need to go. I got paid my regular salary for the prorated portion of that month, that is, I started on the 16th, taught for a week, went to orientation for three days, and then back to classes. I was paid from the 16th.

They spend a fair amount on orientation to put us up, pay for all of our meals, and take us on two field trips with meals included.

Although not perfect the orientation has something beneficial to everyone, especially people who have never taught before or lived in Korea/East Asia.

Did people used to get paid for orientation?
