I feel a bit hesitant to reply to someone who calls himself dodgy. |

And what, pray-tell, does the word 'rock' refer to in your username? Hmm... on second thoughts, don't answer that!
It's a beautiful looking TV at a reasonable price, and with a whole stack of inputs. My main concern is picture quality with a pc. Any thoughts? I'm not really dodgy... honest! Just pretendin like! |

Hi. I don't think that is such a cheap price. These days you can buy a 42 inch LCD for 1,300,000. This one is only 26 inch for 990,000. 42 inch is the sweet spot in pricing right now. That might me a little big for your computer desk, though LOL <<drool>>
I have no idea about PAL but I checked the specs and the TV supports analog VGA input from your computer. No DVI though... With 1366x768 you should be able to get a good, readable resolution for your PC and play HD programming at 720p |

Thanks Hanguker.
I think with TVs you get what you pay for. I would rather have a smaller screen with great picture quality rather than a bfg with a grainy dull picture. I also don't want a TV to take over my apartment!
At the moment I'm torn between the 26 and 32 (same model). It's a great looking TV, and got great reviews on Cnet, from people who actually bought it. I also checked it out in the department store (where it cost 1.5!), and the image quality was fantastic. I don't know... I just don't trust a 42incher for 1,300,000.
As for DVI, this tv has two HDMI inputs (I think!)- doesn't that supercede DVI?
I wasn't really sure about the whole resolution thing, so thanks for clearing that up. |

Ah...
DA,
You are looking at a pretty expensive LCD TV there compared to what you can get back home (different brands of course). The only advantage to getting a set here is that you have first choice of buying the latest PAVV/Samsung/LG LCDs here that will never sell elsewhere. As for PAL, I'm not too sure about that but if the model is sold elsewhere then it is possible for the TV to support it.
This would be fine with a WII, XBOX and PS3 but not for daily use for a computer. The resolution is reasonable if you're only going to be using this TV in a lounge room and not on a computer table. I've always felt that browsing the net or writing a word document on a TV was a bit of an eye strain.
HDMI is basically DVI with audio inputs (one cable instead of many). With a dual, I think that means that 2 different HDMI sources can be connected to this TV, like video 1 and video 2.

Next time you test a TV, watch a local channel or bring your own DVDs/movies. Sometimes, the shop uses high quality DVDs/HD-DVDs designed for demonstration. |

Problem is finding a PC with an HDMI output...
I still think that that resolution would be fine to use with a PC, but I've never used a "TV" with a PC before so I can't speak for eye-strain. Isn't an LCD TV just an LCD monitor with a cable input and decoder? |

A computer LCD and normal LCD scan pictures differently. The former makes the picture look sharper but jaggered/unnatural, the latter makes the picture look more natural but soft.

You can still use the DVI output and audio cabling from the sound card. |

Thanks for the advice guys. Especially about the DVI/HDMI stuff, and those sneaky department stores using special demo DVDs.
I was pretty eager to get this, thinking it would free up space in my apartment, by being my tv/pc monitor all in one. Now I'm not so sure.
Oh well... guess I'll spend that 990,000 on crack-whores instead... What? You believed me when I said I wasn't dodgy?? |

At yongsan, you can visit the Microsoft booth which has notebooks and XBOX360s connected to large LCD TVs. The one connected via component (VGA) doesn't look all that sharp. |

Do you think that's down to the tv manufacturer, or is it an inherent problem with LCD TVs? |

I'm typing this on a 50++" LCD TV with HDMI connection and it is much better than VGA, though still not as good as an LCD monitor and maybe even a projector. I remembered purchasing a projector a few years back which was very sharp when using Windows on it.
I'd say that if you're only going to use the LCD TV for internet and computer use for 2-3 hours a day, then it'll be ok. I feel that the screen is too glaring to use any longer than that. Just my opinion. |
