while trying to start shit with my friend.

attn. kyopos - especially the ones who have only been here 2-3 weeks - i have nothing against you - but it's a bad idea to try and pull the "you don't belong here" card with people who have 1. been here longer than you 2. speak the language more than you and 3. care about "your country" more than you do (but you're from LA...).

yeah. i'm sure 99% of all kyopos are unlike the douche drinker we met tonight and his spineless stalwart apologist friends... but the vocal minority can still grab the contents of my depends and eat them.

a vindicating part was when i yelled back "get out of your country? you're a kyopo from LA" and his embarrassed korean born buddy said "haha... yeah! you're right!"

Gyopos aren't allowed outside of Seoul. Bad for the rice.

I agree with your specific example (first time to korea, cant speak korean etc.) but most kyopos aren't as "whitewashed" as you think

98% of my kyopo friends can speak some Korean, atleast 50% are fluent and read hangul, many were born in korea (including me), visit korea every summer, most of their relatives are in korea, many know atleast a little about their history, went to hangul schools growing up, go to korean churches, etc

and you gotta remember, growing up in the US, no matter how "whitewashed" kyopos are, they are still labeled as "that korean". we also check the "korean/asian" bubble on applications. so being korean is a huge part of our identity growing up.

Funny, my gyopo friends don't check any of the bubbles. Like me.

Not all Gyopos are as color-washed as you think. ^^

I think this is a rant against an individual, not generalizing about kyopos. Uber is more "yellowwashed" than the kyopo. Yet, no matter how "yellowwashed" he is, he remains 'that foreigner'.

Can I apply to be korean/asian?

I can't recall how many gyopos from L.A. I've run into. A lot. I've watched them incite fights on many occasions, all in the interests of protecting "their culture".

Mod Edit: Removed flame.

like i said... nothing against 99% of kyopos. just this one and ones of his ilk with tacky, misplaced nationalist sentiment that makes them look like douches.

Well yeah, and that's got to be a tough burden some times, not to excuse the behaviour but if had to live with that I'd have a big chip on my shoulder and probably be looking for fights too.

But maybe it's just simpler than that- no single ethnicity, culture, linguistic group or nation has a monopoly on "arsholishness". Some kyopos in Korea are arseholes. As are some foreign English teachers (and no that's not an implicit jab at anyone in the thread but we all know it's a fact).

it'd be more likely to say that they're labeled as "that chinaman".

I am guessing the most people outside of the large cities would never know the difference between a Korean person and a Chinese person.

I believe you mean a "koreaman and a chinaman".

Don't be offensive.

What's a kyopo?

I would have yelled, "Minus ten stamps!" (I don't know if your school has a stamp system or not.) Sure he wouldn't understand, but, yeah, it's something I would have done.
