Flash them like Olympic scorecards....lol.

Ok, the only time I had to do them, the director sat beside me and said, everybody A or B......yeah whatever.... I was constructive and at least she translated, but other than that, it was a waste of time. (that was at a hakwon)

Not to mention they get checked over by the partner teacher to make sure we're not being honest or repeating ourselves.

I pretty much give all A's and B's, maybe a C or D for the truly damned.

But I write whatever I feel like in the comments section. usually i think of what the parents should really know about their child's education, and possibly how they might nudge the youngster in the right direction. And sometimes, it's payback time. Twisted Evil

Often a bit of praise aimed at marginal students will improve their attitude & effort.

I enjoy writing them for my best and worse studemts.
The best ones will enjoy some of the praise they deserve but rarely hear, and hopefully it keeps em going a bit. Those are the ones who can understand me fully, too.
And writing for the turds lets me practice eloquent ways of telling their mothers that they may as well just flush their hogwan money down the toilet.

I have to make them every damn month and I hate them to hell. I don't have to prep much at all for my classes, but making exams, grading exams, and writing up about 30 report cards each month really pisses me off. Just like the OP, mine are proofread by the boss before giving them to the kids, so I can't use something like ESLtool, or that automatic report card generator. I've gotta start making them next weekend Evil or Very Mad

One more thing. The part that sucks the most is that 90% of the parents don't even read the report cards because either their kid throws it away, hides it in their bag, or the parents don't understand English well enough to make sense of anything. I wish my boss would do a survey of the parents to find out which ones actually want the report cards

I feel all of what has been said so far. I just finished report cards about three weks ago. It was a joke. I had kids that didn't even finish their tests but we still had to give them at least a B or better. We had things on the report cards relating to participation and the kids doing their homework. I had a kid that never (and I mean never) did his homework and my boss only had me take 1 point off. My boss spent almost two days after we did the report cards rewriting them. She would go to the teachers and make them change the report cards if she thought the grade was too low. She even had me change a grade because she thought it was too high!!!! The kid always did his homework and was probablly the brightest student in the school. Anyways A+ for everyone next time. Am I still sane after this? I don't think so.

Every month... same thing. "Johnny has potential", "Lucy doesn't work in class". Nothing changes but the same crap reports have to be made by me. 40+ a month. Egads, I HATE them!

Tedious work indeed. Usually a few sentences will suffice though. Sometimes I didn't know Betty from Sally from Jenny from Jane from Julie! I'd just make up nice-sounding meaningless sentences that could apply to any students.

"She'll do well as long as she tries her best." Or, to fill up more space on the damn thing about a student you might barely know, "I think she has a lot of potential and can make solid progress in learning English with more practice and experience."

"He enjoys activities that he likes to participate in, and he has a good time in class whenever he is enjoying himself!"

"He's an active student. He has a lot of energy and he likes keep busy in the classroom doing things that attract his attention. Sometimes he needs to focus more on the material in order to make better progress."

Just a load of nonsense mostly, but you'll laugh to yourself writing this stuff.
