I don't mean to put up a negative message, but I really don't like this Canadian bar and I don't think anyone needs to go there.

They have recently been fined for serving minors so everyone needs to bring I.D. if they look under 30. This is understandable, right? Nevertheless, I have been in there 3 or 4 times and I haven't been ID'd(I am a white male, 25 western age and many people say I look really young). I have also been at the bar with a white girl who was 23 that wasn't ID'd.

So...my Korean Wife goes in there at age 26(western age), and is told that she can order food and eat it outside, because she didn't have her ID, plus wait outside. She also went with a friend who was 30 and had ID.

I know there will be some people out there saying, 'she should have had her ID'. But, my point is...these Canadians shouldn't lose their bar liscence for serving minors, but should lose it for being freaking morons.

Unless Mark Messier is your god and throwing peanut shells on the floor still amuses you, avoid this useless Tom Cochrane supporting waste of space mis-representation of Canada. Please go somewhere else.

The guy also told me that if I had 50, 000 dollars my wife could come and drink there. If I had 50, 000 dollars, I'd pay off my student loan, throw a party, and pay some homeless aggumma to pull down her pants and piss all over that stupid bar. Thanks for reading.

All these posts about boycotting bars are all the same. Someone gets pissed off, then rides full throttle into hypocracy.
If you don't like it, no one's taking your right away to express yourself. But telling others not to go there after lowering yourself into an insult machine is useless. You depreciate your message.

Obviously the police are only concerned with protecting their own citizens. How many minor aged foreigners go there, anyway? I don't know any minor aged teachers and the military has to worry about their own police more than the local idiots.
The 50,000 is totally for the cost of being busted again, eh.

the fact that "not being able to get into the RMT" was enough of an issue for someone that they'd type 4 poorly-written paragraphs gives me pause. it's kind of like not being allowed into mcdonalds or a darfur bordello.

if the people you know are bent out of shape because they really wanted to get into that place and hang out with a bunch of wackjob canadians and poser canadians, listen to crap music and come out smelling like an ashtray's arse... maybe you need to reconsider the crew you're rolling with.

that place has always been a dive. it's always been staffed by boring fruits who like the worst of the worst canadian music and think it's cool because it's canadian. it always smells bad. do you think you've provided the daily planet with some kind of scoop?

get over it, move on to the next crap bar that's going to go out of business in a year when the novelty wears off.

also - i've never met a korean who doesn't bring their id with them wherever they go.

sometimes i like the place. sometimes i feel it is a bit toooo canadian and i wonder why i miss home sometimes. sunday morning, over-priced low quality breakfast, lots of loud fat chicks still drunk from the night before....tragically hip and reruns of hockey games, too many jocks. but generally i think its a decent place. that said, it seems to be sliding a bit and the staff aren't as into it as before. running a bar is probably not easy and the intitial thrill wears off. itaewon is itaewon. love it and hate it. bars are bars. places to act stupid and try to get laid.

One of the main owners is Korean. I have been there many times with Koreans and they are nothing but friendly to them. However, since they got set-up, and the underage girl was was caught drinking, they have become skeptical. They don't check foreigners ID because there are very few foreigners that would be going there underage, and if they are going to get set-up again, they aren't going to use an underage foreigner to send in there. They are not racist, they are actually good guys once you get to know them, even though that takes a long time.

That place will eventually die because there are far better Canadian bars opening up like the one in Bucheon called Canada Buddy. Nice relaxed atmosphere, mature people and good food. The owner is a friendly intelligent fellow that won't tolerate the idiot types that show up at RMT ruining his bar.

If you don't want to go out that far, there's another Canadian bar with microbrew beer (see restaurant sticky thread) in Gangnam. I haven't been there, so I have nothing to say about it.

The only reason people to to the RMT is because it's in Itaewon. They don't even sell good beer there.

People aren't going to start going to Bucheon to go to a Canadian bar, that is just rediculous.

Second, the 'Canadian' bar in Gangnam is just a typical Gangnam/Korean bar, but with Canadian beer. I like the place, but there is nothing Canadian about it, except for the beer.

The RMT sells, Moosehead, Alley Kat and soon will have the Big Rock beer.

Wow Dev, all your points covered right there.

Do you mean foreigner-run bars in general are likely to go belly-up in a year, or foreigner-run bars other than RMT?

So, who set them up? A competitor or the police? And how do you imagine the next sting will transpire? Jeez, gotta love the sneaky underhandedness in the bar business here.

Okay, is that based on your not having a good time there and your assumption that other patrons will eventually come to the same assessment? Or does the place in fact appear to be going downhill and nothing can stop it?

Nah, though it may die because it's just too freaking loud for a tavern.

They were set-up by a competitor. When they caught the girl, the police walked in and walked straight over to the girl and made a big deal of only asking that one girl. First they were encouraged to pay-off the police, and when they refusd, they went to court, where the judge tried to get them to pay him off. They didn't and then they had to pay a huge fine, around $50,000 and were closed for a while. The game in Itaewon is competitive and that kind of stuff is pretty normal, especially when a new foreigner owned bar comes into the neighbourhood and is packed every weekend and even during the week.

Rocky Mountain Tavern..

Is that the one a few places down from the fire station? I'm not sure, but if it's what I'm thinking of, that place is a hole. I walked in and immediately thought that it would be the perfect place to film one of those scenes where someone walks into an old building that has been vacant for thirty years, having been left in a filthy, miserable condition.

If it sucks so much, why are they always so busy?

Last I heard, it was law that you had to have ID on your body at all times, when outside the house.

Being set up? That's lame. Koreans have no idea how to be competitive, so that's what they do. Lame ass. I am liking this country less and less by the day.
