I'm getting tired of my music. I loathe heavy metal and generally dislike heavy rock. It goes without saying that Mariah Carey and Celine Dion are evil. Here are some of my current favorites:

The New Amsterdaams
Matt Costa
Jack Johnson
Dido
Death Cab for Cutie
Dave Matthews
Norah Jones
Coldplay
Counting Crows
Ani DiFranco
Radiohead

So anything in this similar-ish genre. Thanks! I know I can count on you cool Dave kids to help me out.

John Wesley Harding
Ellis Paul
Iris DeMent
John Prine
Steve Goodman

all on the folky side of things

Keb' Mo'
Chris Thomas King
Robert Cray
Taj Mahal
Etta James

on the bluesy side of things

Mary Chapin Carpenter
The Mavericks

on the country side of things (Iris DeMent could go here, too)

10,000 Maniacs
Sam Phillips (the female singer/songwriter, not the male producer)
Elvis Costello (though he ranges very widely)
Belle & Sebastian

on the pop side of things

If you don't mind listening to things in a language you don't know, I think you'd also like the Russian duo, Gosti iz Buduschego (Visitors from the Future)

Howie Day - singer songwriter that gives the illusion of a full band by using a pedal board.

I see you like counting crows, do you know the website annabegins.com?
Check out Matt Nathanson, Immy played on a couple of his albums

The first band i got into after Counting Crows was Dispatch. they're a mix of funk, folk, rock and a bit of hip hop. Kinda dave matthewsy

Patrick Watson - the next jeff buckley (www.myspace.com/patrickwatson)

Jesse Harris - wrote a couple songs for Norah Jones, including her singles.

Sufjan Stevens/Bright Eyes - the ultimate folk artists.

Stars/Feist/Broken Social Scene/Metric/Apostlle of Hustle/Raising the Fawn/Memphis/Emily Haines and the Soft Skeleton/Amy Milan, etc..
All members of BSS, this'll give you indie cred Cool

Thanks everyone. You pulled through for me, just like I knew you would. The only problem is that I now feel a bit overwhelmed by the whole thing. How to pick?

I'm not particularly into this type of gear so the only thing name I can lock into is Radiohead. If you like that sort of stuff then you might dig The "Special Forces" album by Julian Fane which was released by Planet Mu a couple of years ago. An album that's been compared to My Bloody Valentine, Sigur Ros and Radiohead. Not exactly my cup of tea but an electronic album quite accessible to people of that ilk.

Two groups that if you haven't heard, you are missing out:

The Be Good Tanyas - Get ready to lose your mind on the first 20 seconds' harmonies. Littlest Birds

Old Crow Medicine Show - The first time bluegrass has tranced me out was when I heard Gospel Plow.
