Your "understanding of racism" is not where your actual racism resides. See here |
Interesting article. Yet I don't see how the "roots" of racism amounts to racism par excellence. I would think having a racist outlook on life is much different from merely holding highly subconscious, kind of instinctual racial preferences (which frankly I'm sure we all have to some extent). Presumably reason is able to trump gut reactions when it comes to people formulating their general outlooks on life. It's like how if I see a black girl and a white girl side by side, I'm more likely to be attracted physically to the white girl. Yet I understand that both are still equal as people, and wouldn't treat the black girl with any less respect despite any initial superficial prejudice. This is why I think the notion of racial equality is something derived from my conscious understanding. Of course everyone reacts to surface appearances, but I would say only "racist" people use that to formulate conscious value judgements. Neverthless I will concede that former can and often does influence the latter, which is why education is important. |

Check under Pop culture cliche here for the complete explaination. A friend of mine went to see Blue Man group and some guy starting yelling "Freebird". The Blue Man group started playing it with only a trashcan or something. Bill Hicks reasonably calls the guy out. Another common response is to flick the crowd off and say, "Here's your freebird". A little cheesy unless done right. |

comic sinbad who was at the comedy club that night comments on richard's rant, and comments on the letterman apology. he sums up what many have been saying on this forum: the strangeness of the rant, the attempt to try and turn it around when he was on stage, underlying issues he must have, the odd letterman apology. 9 min long in case your pressed for time right now.

Yeah, I've never heard about the "Freebird" thing either.
I had no idea that Michael Richards was so odd in real life. What a weird meltdown on stage. Aren't these guys supposed to have an arsenal of come-backs for hecklers? It's not like he just recently started doing stand-up, is it? |

Yes, thanks for that. I've never really cared for Sinbad. Haven't seen him in years but used to occasionally on TV. (I suggested he change his name to "Sinhorrible" for the sake of truth in advertising.) But that's merely him as a comic. Still, I thought he was quite good in this interview, and I was happy to see that.
But you know what... If I were Michael Richards, and I knew that CNN were going to be interviewing a black comedian, getting his take on what I'd done, the whole sh1tstorm I'd created -- I'd be thrilled to find out they chose Sinbad. He's a softie. |

The comic sure had it coming, but I wasn't sure what to make of the fact that his "conscience" had a distinctly "white" accent. |

It seems that the Iron Sheik has found out about 'Kramer' saying the N-word, and he's not very happy about it.
