This is the band with the boy, right?

I don't know what you mean by that to tell you the truth.
I only recently got into them through my liking of the electro duo "Dirty Hospital" who did a remix on the "Shy Retirer EP".
They have some OK tracks.

Saw Arab Strap open for bright eyes a couple years back.
One of the worst sets i've ever seen live.
Heard their albums were good though.

The reference is to Belle & Sebastian's album entitled The Boy with the Arab Strap.

Good call, Woland!

Here is the title song off the album: Boy with the Arab Strap.

Here is info from Wikipedia:

Quote:
The inspiration for the album's name came from the band Arab Strap, who are also from Scotland and briefly toured with Belle & Sebastian. An Arab strap is a sexual device for retaining an erection.

Arab Strap were reportedly less than pleased with their inclusion in the title of the album. When questioned about it, Arab Strap's leader/singer, Aiden, said "They have a sense of humor." Malcolm, the band's instrumentalist, added, "Because Arab Strap is quite an interesting name. The words go well together. That's why we chose it as a band name. We're friends with them, but there's a limit to putting someone else's name on an album. Theyre taking away something from us." He also mentioned that the album had been confused as a collaboration between the bands.

Embarrassingly enough, I've been listening to 80s pooftas the Pet Shop Boys rather a lot.

Actually, before PSB alienated their heterosexual audience by becoming fully-fledged gay-as-fook, they had some outstanding material.

La Oreja de Van Gogh and Extremoduro.

I've been fruitlessly trying to download a band called Jarabe de Palo as well.

Good stuff, esp. Jarabe de Palo and La Oreja from Spain. Also try Hombres G and Mana plus countless other good stuff. I'm a Shakira fan back in her early days.

Did you see he's coming out with his first new album (of pop) in 30 years? It'll be interesting to see what it turns out to be like. I don't know that I'd rush out to buy it without listening to some samples first.

Chiasm (her new CD), NIN, Rob Zombie, 50 Cent, Madonna (Confessions on a dance floor- jump), and Judas Priest's "Revolution", have been rocking my iTunes this month.
