I agree that wreath should be removed, but not because it's symbolic of Satan or any other religious reason. I'd want it taken down because it's symbolic of hippies, lefties, druggies, and unkempties. Damn thing's a threat to property values.

The same people asking for the wreath to be removed probably voted for this guy:

I love the way the article ends:
Quote: |
Kearns ordered the committee to require Jensen to remove the wreath, but members refused after concluding that it was merely a seasonal symbol that didn't say anything.
Kearns fired all five committee members. |

C'mon, it's only been 30 years since we've had this argument. It's time for another go-around.
And I also liked the ending of the story...If you don't like the way the vote goes, change the voters:

Kearns ordered the committee to require Jensen to remove the wreath, but members refused after concluding that it was merely a seasonal symbol that didn't say anything.
Kearns fired all five committee members.

I think we know exactly who thinks this wreath is a bad thing (aside from JG, who I'm convinced is only joking - after all he has tiki torches!) and why. And Satan has nothing to do with it. |

We all loved the way it ended, Deadman. I hereby nominate Loma Linda Homeowners Association President Bob Kearns of Pagosa Springs for the office of Kolorado Bundesstaat Housingfhrer.

Aw. That's a shame. But at least I'm not Deadman, who I assume is dead to us all.

Don't be that way, Ya-ta. Think of it as a new & improved democracy! More efficient, too. Why don't we call it "Blitzdemokratie"! Yes, let's!

Oh, I agree entirely. Like they say, "As goes Pagosa Springs, so goes America". |

This is funny because on another board I'm arguing about free speech in the US. This is a great example of how tenuous it is.
So let me see...
-exposing an undercover CIA operative in a publication...free speech
-picketing outside cemeteries saying that God kills Americans using Muslims because God hates fags and the US isn't hard enough on gays already...free speech
-hanging a wreath that has a peace symbol...not free speech? |

Oh, pshaw!
I've been highly skeptical of these 'communities' ever since the bleak and grim days when I was married and we were looking at a place that said if you had kids you had to move out.
No, I don't particularly like living next door (or upstairs from) a screaming, squalling new-born brat, or one that is old enough to go outside and scream and squall outside my open window, but whatever happened to 'A man's home is his castle'?
I applaud the woman in the article who is too stubborn to be pushed around. In fact, I think she ought to get some spears and start chuckin' 'em at anyone who looks askance at her peace sign/wreath. Whatever happened to 'Kill a Commie for Christ', for christ's sake? |

And the moral is, dont live in sub divisions...

Then again, if you`re a christian, almost any sign that represents something you don`t agree with ( yeah, peace, what kind of evil value it that!!? ) is probably a satanic symbol anyway... |

It's so true. I was raised to believe that the peace sign was satanic. The reason being that it is an upsidedown broken cross and that it makes a mockery out of Jesus. (and basically everything else is evil too...)
Thank God when ur an adult you can choose not to go church anymore, needless to say I don't believe in such nonsense anymore. |
