Anybody heard about the two day English festival to be held in Yongin next month? My co-teacher informed me about it yesterday and said it was mandatory for all foreign teachers to attend.
The thing is its to be held on a weekend. The 16th and 17th I think. Apparently the Kyounnggi Office of Education believes that if it was held on a week day the students involved would miss too much study time at school.
Bollocks.

Now I understand why the Kyounggi Education Dept has such a poor reputation among foreign teachers.
I wish I'd just put my foot down and said no at the beginning now.....

I think they're targeting the "presentable" teachers... |

You're not alone on the Yongin fest.
My supervisor had told me, its not a choice not
to attend.
Not sure if we get paid -its not in our contract
to do weekend teaching. |

Lydia.....my school offered me overtime pay to attend. If you "have" to go it might be in your best interest to enquire about this.

I've heard nothing about this, but if asked to go I will have to say no. I have plans for that weekend that I simply cannot cancel (don't know what yet, but I'll think of something). |

Went and we ended up having a nice bacon bake at a restaurant w/ plenty of soju and some cool local waygook teachers. Well, most were cool. That was the entire meeting. Oh, the guy in charge said we will be paid for the two days. Think I'll spend mine on a new 120,000kw 300 gig hard drive and a couple of nice sweaters... |
