I need to buy a computer, but I don't know if I should buy one in the US or wait until I get to Korea. I would like to have a laptop but I don't know if it will be worth the expense. It's tempting because I could use it on the plane and it will take up less space in my tiny apartment. I plan to use it for games so the computer I get will have to be able to support fairly intense graphics. If I wait until I get to Korea, I will probably just buy a desktop because I assume it will be cheaper. Does anyone know what my best option will be? Can I find a computer in Korea with English Windows for a reasonable price?

If you buy a laptop will you be carrying it around everyday or everyweek? if yes, then get one. If the answer is that it will sit in the same spot every day and be a glorified paperweight, then you should buy a desktop.

You can buy a low end desktop (P4-3.0 gHz) with LCD monitor for under $500.

English windows is available here without too much difficulty (pirate or legit).

Using a computer to play on the airplane is not a very good choice. The battery life on most laptops is only good for a couple hours, the flight is more than 10 hours and unless you are in business or 1st class you won't be able to plug in or recharge.

If you get a laptop small enough to be light and portable it won't make a good machine for gaming. If you get one suitable for gaming it will be to large and heavy for real portability.

Cost is another factor. Laptops are usually more than 2x the price of a comparable desktop. A trip to yongsan should be in your near future.

If you can assemble your own box you can build a nice coreduo gaming system for around $500 plus the cost of your monitor.

Buy a medium-range desktop at Yongsan when you arrive. Maybe 600,000. More if you want a good monitor. Sell it on Dave's when you leave for 300,000. A good computer for 300,000 a year sounds good to me.
