Our UGLY TEACHERS campaign.

This all started when I got sick and tired of hearing schools over the phone asking for beautiful teachers or handsome teachers rather than good teachers.
For that reason I want to hire UGLY TEACHERS.

I will be honest with you.
I don't care what you look like. I care about your teaching ability.
Most of the schools that I recruit for feel the same.

Sure they will request a photo.
Yes they will examine it and try to determine your personality from the look in your eyes and they may even say to themselves.."hmm yes..he looks like a kind teacher..."

What they WON'T do is hire you ONLY because of this snap shot.
They will hire you on your resume. They will hire you on your interview.

I had to cringe when I saw this. It stipulates that looks are not important but features all of the usual run of the mill adds. Also, there is the usual accent/nationality nonsense etc.

I'd never work there.

Who wants to work with ugly chicks?

It doesn't mean anything. It's just something to catch the eye. They're recruiting for public schools.

I have talked with these people. They are just using it as a gimmick. What they want are teachers and people who want to teach. They seemed polite and to be honest I thought it was a cute gimmick.

Also think it's a refreshing angle for a recruiter to take. Props...but also, I wouldn't work there, as yes, who wants to work with a bunch of ugly people.

Silly joke people: wouldn't want to work "there"

"There" is a bunch of public schools where you'd probably be the only "ugly teacher" ---- foreigner that is.

I like this guy. I've talked to him. He's a hard scrabble Australian guy and talks straight. I started a thread on this topic previously. At first the ad reads like a disgruntled hagwon owner. Not everyone, however, quite gets what he's doing, and that's fine. If you're still offended or put off by his ad, you're not the kind of person he wants to place with his clients. Your best weapon in Korea is to laugh at things that might, on first blush, offend.

An ugly teacher has it harder here. We have one guy here who is as ugly as the day is long. Parents take one look at him and start gossiping with eachother. I know hogwan owners are aware of this and would probably only hire an ugly person as a last resort. Like if they couldn't find anyone else.

Enormously fat teachers have the same problem. I remember flying from JFK to Incheon and this one dude a few seats ahead of me must have been close to 400lbs. There was a Korean waiting for him at the airport with a card with the guy's name on it. He saw the card and walked toward the Korean. It looked as if the Korean was going to have a heart attack on the spot. I could read his mind from his facial expression, "Holy ***!!,
Next time I'm going to have to politely ask for a full body shot, not just passport photo"

Seems like the typical percentage of people who get it and those who don't.

Ok, I've been talking to the certain someone I blasted earlier. It appears we just had a series of unfortunate events and miscommunications. That said, I am still quite peeved at the guy, I mean...he hired me and my friends...does that make us ugly people? Here, I thought I was ruggedly handsome, like a "jacked up conan o'brian". Oh well.
