Bill aims to protect foreigners

The Cabinet council yesterday passed a resolution to tackle the most common problems faced by foreigners residing in the nation.

The government has been looking into ways to assist expatriates adjust to life in Korea as the number of foreigners living across the country surged, reaching 909,000 as of October this year.

The bill will be submitted to the National Assembly, the Justice Ministry said in a press release.

The ministry said foreigners have suffered from situations such as delayed salary payments, physical and mental abuse at work and other forms of discrimination.

It said it is considering providing more Korean lessons to foreigners and launching a campaign against discrimination.

"And in other news, the National Assembly passed a 'self defense' clause that applies to foreigners living in the Republic of Korea."

That was what I was about to put. And the self defence clause would be pretty sweet too.

You know getting those bonus cards is a nice thing for the discounts, but when it comes to redeeming the points? That's another story. I wonder if it's actually true that another poster said they won't allow us access to websites because they don't want us seeing their porn. Like anyone would want to see that lame stuff.

Good news for factory workers if it passes -- many work in truly dire conditions. This initiative will have nothing to do with english teachers.

they do something like this at least once a year.

Great for the government's PR but that's about as far as it goes.
