Hi,
I'm moving to Seoul in January, its my first time living abroad (gulp!) and, thanks to all the fab internet sites and postings i've read here, most of my questions about moving have been answered. Except one - I know it probably sounds daft, but how do you go about making friends in a foriegn country where you don't know anyone?? Just feel like i've got no clue where to start! Would really appreciate advice! Thanks xx

I don't drink much these days and I've made tons of friends. Try:

Korean classes
Ladies Lunches
Various expat events
Various Expat clubs
Subway
etc.

The key is to have some confidence show up and ask for numbers of people you like and then use them! Don't wait for the phone to call.

Something I've learned during my time here is that you do need to be careful with friendships, you'll probably make a lot of fairweather friends that will not last much past Korea, or when you get into trouble. Some will seem normal and are actally complete psychos too (check the freakiest waygook contest).

However I've also met some lifelong buddies who I would trust my life with. Just the luck of the draw.

That depends entirely on who you are and what you like to do.
Are you posh? Then you may want to try Itaewaon on a Satrurday night
Punk? Hongdae
Like dancing? Clubs
Like chilling? Pubs
Are canadian and Really like all things to be Canadian? Rocky Mountain T
Like other things? just say it, there are literally thousands upon thousands of people who could be your new friend. I know, sounds cheesey, but just about everybody goes through the super-shy, stay in your room for 4 months phase. Girls actually seem to take longer. SO say what you like to do already!

In fact, I can't wait!
I'm not particularly posh or punky, lol, but sounds like theres loads going on and I like to go out and have a good time so will try to avoid the hiding in my room stage as much as poss!
Will give some of your suggestions a go, oh and thanks for the good advice crazylemongirl, I tend to trust people far to easily and never think anyone could be psycho, lol, so i'll bear that in mind

Anywhere outside the M25 is rubbish (excluding Heathrow and Gatwick)......Fatboy Slim is a rich kid from Surrey who whilst in the Housemartins reinvented himself as a northerner to get credibility....because at the time the only decent bands were coming from the north.
