The two most requested stories of Stuart McLean's Vinyl Cafe: Dave Cooks The Turkey (and The History of Canada)

I've always enjoyed Vinyl Cafe stories--pretty funny at times!
It's well worth registering at Public Radio Exchange--it's free and there's some very entertaining stuff to listen to...such as the above |

I was listening to Vinyl Cafe one time when I was driving up north to go camping in Algonquin Park in Ontario. A friend I've since lost touch with, from home, was the subject at hand. He is none other than Jim Guthrie, Canadian indie rock icon. I used to play music with him occasionally and drink (not necessarily in that order either). It's surreal to hear about your friend's lives over the radio, especially going camping, to get away from media noise for a while.
Crap. This is starting to sound like one of those tawdry "look what famous people I know" monologues, although I guess he isn't that famous. I hate those monologues. It was really my only Vinyl Cafe story... sorry. |

Big fan of radio art -- I've spent countless hours of my life tuned into CBC, NPR, etc. Theres much to explore on this brilliant site. Thanks for the link!
Try this one: http://www.prx.org/pieces/5895/preview
A tribute to John Lennon. Stuff you've never heard, lovingly presented, edgy & very moving.
Tons of stimulating entertainment to be gleaned here. |

Zoobot, that's a neat VC story--you must have been surprised as ever
Schwa, I love listening to CBC and NPR through my computer wherever I am on the planet--no annoying ads and the content is often very interesting and global in its perspective. I especially like the World Music stuff--things you would never be able to listen to on a mainstream radio station.
Countless hours spent listening while I am busy doing whatnot--radio doesn't co-opt your entire attention like TV does. Thanks for the John Lennon link! |
