I had this argument here a year or more ago. 2-Someone was claiming Macs don't need a virus scanner because they're so secure. Uh huh. |
Macs were never impenetrable. I've always owned Macs (going back to Apple Lisa) and even I knew that. It was LESS LIKELY to be infected only because it was LESS LIKELY to be targeted in the first place. Doesn't stop the 1000 or so virii out there from existing though.
2-They're not secure. The only time I've gotten a virus was when I was doing something stupid. I stop doing it, I stop getting the virii.
[quiote]PC has always been a system that assumes the user knows something and just doesn't do stupid things.[/quote]
Mac assumes you don't know a damn thing, so doing stupid things happens all the time. And when people aren't getting all the viruses they hear abound out there, the myth of the Macs invulnerability is born.
Use secure browsers, update virus defs and use a virus checker, auto scan all new files/discs/drives for virii, don't click on attachments in email, don't download warez or Kracks, stay off of Limewire and Emule/Edonkey.
I haven't had a virus in probably 10+ years. Not due to "invulnerability" but because I stopped doing stupid shit online. Just takes an ounce of brains. |

I don't even have a virus scanner on my home and office computer. Guess I must be one of the few who knows how to use a computer. |

probably making quite a few assumptions in this thread!
when maybe 90% of the world uses pc, then it's simple math to work out who's the target.
when 99% of the idiots in the world use pc, then it's obvious math to work out who's the target.
just as it's more likely for a person using firefox to get less viruses because that person is also more likely to update their security, use a firewall and be aware of risks.
those people aren't targets.
the same person who clicks on viagra ads in their spam box is the same person who owns a computer that is pwned by viruses and is an anonymous gateway for spammers ... that's your average AOL user, in my opinion!! |
