I have been to a Rotory Club meeting once when I got some money off of the medicaid bunch from some small-fry "scholarship" in high school, but I am so bored and been-there-done-that through and through, that I would actually think of it.

Talk me out of it, will ya?

Anyone actually been to one of these or any of the many "secret society" meetings we hear about? I kinda wanna join a "Eyes Wide Shut" kinda group but with more BINGO.

Actually, soju with beer but only one bottle and one shot, just so I can f'ing sleep!

Why not?

Probably a good way to meet people outside your ordinary circle. Personally, being a bit shy, I prefer to meet people in more structured settings - such as clubs and meetings.

Thought for a while about trying to start a ToastMasters Club in Chungju - but the costs to actually set the club up where more than I wanted to risk.

I joined a choir and I'm having a blast. It doesn't have the knight's code of valour or anything like that, but we make great music and go for beer and chicken after every practice (one of the choristers runs a little chicken-hof restaurant.) They even sing their soju toast in four part harmony. They get cheered all the time when they do that. I love it.

I tried to join the Rotarians in Korea by passing an e-mail through the International headquarters. Never heard back from them.

Do you know what it takes to be a Rotary member?

Rotary is not a secret organization ala "stonecutters"

You should be a leader in your community...preferably in business, law, accounting and have money.

We could always start our own fraternal organization. How about forming our own Raccoon Lodge ala The Honeymooners? We can all dress-up like this

I was a rotary exchange student and my father has been a member of rotary for as long as I can remember....

I think the fees are high to join.

The meetings tend to be a bit on the boring side but I mean I was sixteen the last time I was there.

Well, how about another club not so soporific.

I always thought that the club where Bond has an impromptu sword fight with the villain was the kinda club I wanna ta be in, a club where one could and should have impromptu sword fights or any flight of fancy or Fe, as one wished.

BINGO aint just gonna be enough though, I can tell you that right now, Verne. Aren't there any Knights Templar or any Illuminati chapters round here in Seoul? *shakes head in disbelief at his plight in a 3rd-world purgatory* Bunch of Neanderthals!

The Rotarians. They've got the big Rotary Korea chapter, plus a couple small Engrishee-speaker chapters as well here. Yes, meetings. Boring guest speakers, the clatter and scrape, scratch of the sliverware, the everloving treasurer's report... But you know, they're called service organisations. Rotary, Lions Club, others. It is, ostensibly and often in fact, mainly about service. "Service before self" their motto is. And you keep talking about movies you saw and wanting to be like people in movies you saw.

I need servicing, I'll tell ya! I need to be serviced above the heads and shoulders of others like a god among his dominion.

I am actually not being serious, 100%. I do want to join the Rotarians, in a way, but I kinda wanna know if I should hold out for something more. I like the service idea, but what else do these guys do after their coffee and crackers, is what I wanna know.

Ah well, that parts easy....they jsut do what every other group of drunk men do in Korea. Drink more. Sing, drink more, sing badly....repeat.
