The first photo is from a boy, when asked what he liked about his life, could only answer "teacher, I hate my life!"

I love how all his people are grey and faceless. The only time they even manifest a feature is a mouth and it's mostly to perform a basic function. Oddly he betrays a small amount of happiness in the brief walk to hagwon and a smaller amount of happiness when he's been given a task like drawing.

* * *

This one, not much of a story behind it, other than I kind of like how his people are distorted in a spooky dream like way. The hands and feet are sharp points. Everyone has these soma-induced expressions. Eyes shut, grin and bear it, and you'll be shuffled through Korean society...

* * *

I was trying to teach my students about the idea that what seems like the obvious cause might not be the real cause.

My example was a village during winter. A researcher notices birds sit on the roofs of some homes but not others. He knocks on the doors of homes with both bird sitters and no birds. He discovers 100% of the homes with birds on the roof have a baby inside the house. 100% of the homes with no baby have no birds on their roof. Can one conclude birds are helping or causing women to get pregnant?

Clearly the idea is silly so I asked my students to try and figure out the hidden cause. One student Lucy thought she had the solution:

"Teacher it is winter so there is not a lot of foods. The birds know which houses have delicious babies and they want to eat the babies."

*blink*

"Lucy, how would the birds get the babies out of the house to eat them?"

Lucy drew a picture of her cunning plan on the blackboard:

My students draw images out of violent comic books. A recent one is girl wearing bunny ears holding a disemboweled bunny in one hand, the entrails in the other.

My avatar's one such picture. I love how I actually have brown hair but on paper I'm very bright blond.

Yeah, I've got some students who come up with pretty morbid stuff.

A student drew this (Karl sounds like "knife" in Korean):

I use it on my myspace page.

Worst I ever got was in a creative writing exercize. Admittedly it was halloween, and the students (high school- age 16) were encouraged to aim for creepy. One student, lets call him "stephen" wrote an incredibly detailed story about the murder of a mother and daughter. He detailed the crime scene (too much NCIS?), and so on. On the second page (long for their stories) it was revealed that the murderer was the son of the woman, who had in fact raped, tortured, then murdered his mother and sister...
In the US, this kid would have had to be reported to the guidance counselor. Here, I just gave him an A (well written, if disturbing), and hoped to never see him outside of class.

Last year around Christmas time I had the kids work together and write their own Christmas stories. One duo wrote a disturbing but funny story about the Anti-Santa. He gave bombs instead of presents. There was other stuff and it was funny but it was definitely not for the weak stomached.

My coteacher, who also posts on here was doing an exercise the other day that I had completed in an earlier lesson. Basically our grade two classes (we teach side by side in a private school) had to draw three things they wanted for Xmas. One of his little girls who is a bit eccentric showed me her paper when I wondered into the classroom. Her drawings were of money, a pencilcase and a third one that resembled a crucified cabbage patch doll, complete with sh*t-eating grin. On the pedastal of the crucifix was the word "GOD". Shocked

In my first job, a hagwon, I had a kinder kid think it was fun to draw the twin towers being hit by the planes and burning, complete with falling bodies. I did not find this funny, but the boss chuckled to herself when I showed here.

Now I work at a catholic boys high school. I had my own room that was used after hours as a study room for 3rd years. I gave it up and now go to each class due to graffiti. I would have to check each desk at the begining of each class. I found pictures of me in verying states. One kid drew each peice of my outfit including jewlry like a page in a paper doll book. Another did a crude outline of my body. Then it started to get nasty. Drawings of naked ladies with legs spread. One was on the wall with a oversized male genital just below it positioned to strike. Being the only foreigner the school did not bother to clean it up. A graffiti saying antother teacher was dumb was removed from the same wall promptly.

This isn't disturbing, but it makes me giggle uncontrollably every time I see it....

This is from one of the "upper-beginner" students from my old school.

The class was drawing/coloring "Get Well" cards for a kid that was hit by a bus, and one of the kids drew a giant monster (with the name of the injured child) being stabbed by everyone else in class. In the background was a BUS- with a happy face. WTF!

Wylies99: I was laughing so hard after your post. I am attracted to morbid stuff and that just really hit my funny bone for some reason, even though it's kind of disturbing.

I can't find it to take a picture to post it here, but I got one of my students who finishes her work faster than anyone else to pretend she landed on a planet with an alien civilization and to draw and write about what she finds. She drew a spider woman who got energy from trees, and who hates everyone. Said spider woman also gets energy from hating people.

Shocked

This is the second time I've looked at that and you're right. It does make one laugh without fail. It just has "this kid is doomed" written all over it.
