Hey,
I just thought I'd share some of the resources I use in my classroom (in a HK public school). Now, keep in mind that I have a ceiling mounted projector and big screen in my classroom. One of the resources that I use which is the most popular is a PowerPoint version of the tv gameshow Jeopardy. I can't find the link where I found my original game template, but just google 'Powerpoint games' or 'Powerpoint jeopardy' and you should get a number hits to follow. I've also found Hollywood Squares and Who wants to be a millionaire. So far, I mainly just use the Jeopardy game because it's seems to work the best. Some of the categories I used were 'rhyme time', 'past tense', 'sound it out' (kids have to try to sound out the words phonetically, our school (questions about teachers, etc.), opposites, Food/Drink, etc. Anyway, there are endless possibilities. I use this in classes with 40 kids. Two rows make up a team. Each student MUST speak at least once. I don't care if they answer the question or pick a category just as long as they speak.
I also just found this website:
http://www.sandfields.co.uk/games/games.html
Some of the games aren't that useful, but I use the game called 'flip flap' and the kids seem to enjoy it (kind of a hangman/wheel of fortune game). Even though it's basically a flashy hangman, the kids seem to pay attention and get into it (class divided into teams). You have to watch the instructional video in order to know how to set up the game. Once you figure it out it's simple and takes a minute tops.
Anyway, if I can find the website for my Jeopardy game I'll post it. If you have any questions about the game post them here. You could also PM me and I could e-mail you a game that I've already made. I'm thinking these games would only be useful if you have the right technology in your classroom. If you do, you should check them out. They're actually useful educational tools and give the kids a little excitement in their day.

Thanks for sharing. That IS the spirit and shouldn't just be come Christmas....
I've made my own Jeopardy games as well as template. Also use the one you probably are using by Larsen. Take a look at my games on my website and other games I've made from scratch...might be of use to you.
Next year, I hope to have a formal site where the games and powerpoints etc...will be more accessible with explanation. Waiting on those higher in the feeding trough.
Send me a jeopardy game if you don't mind. Email is on my webpage...
Thanks,

That's awesome.
I'm not in Korea yet, and I've never taught,
but lately I've put a lot of thought into how to
teach. I was trying to remember back when I
was in middle school or elementary school and
the ONLY classes I can really vividly remember
are those where the teacher used some kind of
fun games or neat visual aids.
One of my older brothers who grew up in Germany
only remembers junior high teachers who did
positive and fun things like you are doing.
I really can't wait for the opportunity to teach
these kids. I think it will be a blast.
I'm hoping I can leave for SK in December. |
