Yes, you did. You could tell they were defeated, they stopped fighting.

If they are defeated how are they still killing your troops? That is the difference, the "defeat" was more a celebration on the deck of an aircraft carrier of the Californian coast than one on the ground. The Sunnis just vanished, with their guns and explosives, into the burbs to wage a classic insurgency.

Are you trying to tell me no Japanese civilians ever resisted the US while we occupied Japan?
Also, if you notice most of the violence in iraq now is Iraqi on Iraqi. not Iraqi on US, though that does still exist.

I said we military defeated Iraq. Meaning, the Iraqi military was defeated.. the civilian led insurgency is another story.

well regardless, at least in occupied Japan, US GIs could hang out with the locals and our diplomats weren't quarantined in one small area of Tokyo.

There was no organized insurgency in Japan, nor Germany. To try and say they were in any way similar to Iraq is completely laughable.

Note- This was the neo-con tactic during the first year of the insurgency. They finally had to give it up.

Are you saying Japanese civilians did? In a way anything remotely similar to the resistance that's we've seen in Iraq?

Got a link?

Im not saying there was. But if we are going to be technical and say the war lasted X long, then you have to seperate the twpo periods.
That is, the War period - the miltiary conflcit - and the occupation.

We miltiary defeated Iraq and over threw Saddam in 3 weeks
the occupation has been much longer, and civilians started a insurgency
It took us 3 years to military defeat Japan, but the ocupation also lasted longer then that.
3 years.
3 weeks.
even when you add up the war + occupation times,
WWII was longer.

I guess my point is that is looks much more like a war. The occupation of Japan looked like peace.
